Planning to get a pair of speakers for my new desk, currently using $10 earpiece lol. Not an audiophile, budget is around $200. Since it's for my desk i'm looking for something small, ~14cm (Length) at max? Speakers are for daily usage like gaming, video/drama watching and listening to music.

Seen some online recommendations for behringer truth 3.5, edifier n300 and mackie cr3-x. which would you choose among these 3 or if there's any other recommendations please feel free to list it down. thank you!

How about a small sound bar?

i'm more inclined towards a pair of speakers instead but is there any reason why you'd recommend a sound bar?

No particular reason, just thought if there is space constraint, a mini sound bar might be an option since it can be placed at the rear edge of the table or even above your monitor.

i was looking at a soundbar at first, but decided i still preferred a pair of speakers. space is somewhat a constraint but there seems to be pretty much options for tabletop speakers within the size limit i have, just not sure which might be a better choice based on price to quality.

Edifier m60 seems good... the other 2 are studio monitors so the kind of sound they produce may not suit ur usage..

The other 2 are like pretending to be studio monitors :s13:

Without actually buying all 3 and putting them on the table to compare, I would take my chances with Edifier

will most likely go with edifier then.

also curious if anyone here purchase speakers from taobao before? The price is around half of what I would pay for if I were to buy locally, but of course there’s no warranty for it since it’s from china. Is it too risky or worth a shot?

If you can get your hands on these, here's my team's recommendation:-
https://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/review-hivi-swanspeakers-d100-speakers-review-singapore-price

Audioengine is of course a classic:-
https://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/review-audioengine-a2-speakers-review-small-size-big-sound

But if you're open to other options, such as a more well-known, fuss-free option, you can consider these:-
https://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/rev...op-computer-speaker-singapore-price-specs-buy

Unlike what people would expect from a Creative Pebble, this has to be heard, and that's what we did.
And here are other speakers of various forms we've also tried if you want to widen your scope:-

hi, thanks for the recommendations. audioengine is out since it's way above budget but i could take a look at the d100 although, it seems pretty huge for a table top speaker. noticed there is no review done by your team on the edifier m60, what are your personal views on that and the d100 for daily usage?

China brand speakers from China is okay. Buying anything foreign brand from China is a big no no since the real ones will be sold in taobao at a higher price than you can get locally or from Amazon.

That being said, shipping is a killer so if you can buy from Lazada/shopee/amazon with coupon just buy from there.

Edifier M60 is relatively new, actually the entire lineage of their 3 to 4 inch monitor-isque speaker line is relatively new so need time before reviews proliferate. This is made more confusing by Edifier's style of having many different names for many slightly different speakers.

For certain speaker models, Edifier has one for the China market/users and another one for the global market (which includes sg). The only difference I see btw the 2 are just the language of the labels used on the speaker amd included accaessories (I think the words on the package box also) and probably just the region the power plugs are meant for use. And then ofc there is the warranty thing. But if u are willing to forgo all these factors,,, u actually can save a lot of money.

If u wanna avoid the hassle and maybe heftier additional charges for buying their meant-for-China-market speaker models from China e-cpmmerce platforms... u can buy them on Lazada and still save quite alot... u can choose to buy from their Taobao sub-section or just from their normal marketplace...

Thanks for all the inputs. With that being said, if my budget is being pushed upwards to about $500 and below, other than audioengine, are there any other speakers recommendations? Heard that kanto yu4 is pretty good for the price as well.

At $500, your available table space decides your speaker. Remember to give a bit of margin for future movement or buying new stuff.

Kanto... So long liao still not many reviews. The few reviews that actually come with measurements are... well...

There's a reason for that tho, Kanto are supposedly Canadian so they cost extra to ship outside.

i guess at this price range the audioengine a2+ or the iloud mm might still be one of the recommended choice for me? since both are small in size

Indeed 14cm depth is quite limiting, plus you need space for cables.

iLoud micro is 135mm depth
Adam D3V is 150mm depth

Try to squeeze the Adam D3V in

Audooengine A2+ is just simply outclassed by newer speakers today and no longer recommended.

Edifier n300 is 147mm depth
Mackie CR3-X is 180mm
Behringer truth 3.5 is 182mm

Oh, I think I might have made a mistake with how I’m saying the measurements because of how it’s always LxWxH when I’m looking at specs but the length I meant is actually the width not the depth. How wide the speaker is instead.

is the iloud mm considered a speaker and a studio monitor? I’ve seen mentioned of it being a speaker but I’m not sure if there’s such a half speaker half monitor thing? because of my usage some recommended me to not get a studio monitor and to instead get a speaker instead. The dv3 is also a studio monitor right?
