Main problem : Parents, especially moms get too many assessment/science boosters for the kid taking the subject for the first time especially in P3 and got worse in P4. It worked for other subjects. This is a new subject, it`s like applying the same conditions for adults plants to grow for a seedling, u end up killing it.
Resulting problem 1 : Students get confused with different answering techniques for open ended questions due to too many variety. Too many "correct" answers for them to grasp, end up getting none.
Resulting problem 2 : Too many assessment books are trying to differentiate themselves by more illustrations, more examples, deeper concepts. This will worsen the above problem. As obvious as it may sound, the textbook is the one that`s within syllabus.
Resulting problem 3 : Heard of "Open-ended" questions ? I see a lot a lot of parents, freaked out and want score in these questions because it`s hard. End up they spent time practicing with more assessment books and more tuition and Problem 1 and 2 snowballed. They focused on the "tough" questions but end up losing marks on the easy MCQ.
Solution : Read the textbook and do the past year paper. The key to score is to perfect your careless mistakes by doing more of the same type (past year paper) and NOT doing more variety, with different broadly tested questions and different style of answering to confuse the students.
