Hi i am helping to setup my friend m1 fibre which he got it installed yesterday.

i physco him to buy rt n66u. so it falls back on me to get it fix.

current the setup is

ont (black)> rt n66u > laptop

there is no internet connection for rt n66u.

but when i use direct connection from ont to laptop , no problem . but speed is a 65 mbs even though he is on a 200mbs plan. wonder this problem is related to m1 or ont

is there a need use m1 fibre preset or should i choose special requirements from isp , and pick non profile .

thanks

depending on the model of the laptop, the NIC could only support 100mbps and not gigabit. May want to check. Cat5e(Ethernet cable) does support 1gbit btw.

I think you need to update the n66u and use the special requirements if there is. But since you can connect directly doesn't seem you need to do much settings.

The M1 person didn't make sure that the internet can work before he left?

From what I know you Just need to set the rt-n66u to Dynamic IP for it to work. just connect the ONT to the router Wan port.

Did you restart the ONT after connecting the router?

Yes I did I follow instructions, should I configure rtn66u as ap or leave it as wireless router

As the ont is the black echolife

1. Reset your router to factory default.
2. Power off both ONT & router.
3. Connect LAN port #1 of ONT to WAN port of N66 & power on BOTH devices.
4. Connect a LAN cable from LAN port #1 to your laptop and
follow the step in the video from 6'40" to 9'50" to configure your router.

Direct ont , as I can only get this working .

Maybe I need a dummy step by step walk through guide on setting up black ont with asus rt n66u

I'm using the same setup. its in wireless router mode. Under wan set dynamic IP.

Thanks for all the help
I helped my friend setting up the router.

Settings I missed

Is no need settings, just choose the first option auto dectection ,for most cable modem.
The rest as per normal

Speed test , URL used speedtest.singnet.com.sg

Direct to ont 63.8mbps

When connected to router, firmware .260

Speedtest= 202.73mbps

Upgraded firmware to .270

Speed test = 213mbps

Beats me first time I get this results, but this is the first time, I install m1 fibre.
Maybe something wrong with hardware side, didn't hv time test everything.

But really thanks for all of your help.

You need a cross cable lah. Don't expect any stellar speed from M1. The speedtest is rubbish. It does not measure your response times overseas, which is horrible for M1. Starhub and SingNet has fewer hops to the USA.

Here's proof:

Starhub:

M1 tech service

According to my friend ,the tech replied not my product so I won't set up for u my job is just to ensure u got net and phone only

yah, encountered same problem. The M1 tech just left after setting up the modem. I asked him to stay with me to make sure after I setup the router there is no hardware issues but he said his job is only to setup the modem. He said if I want him to setup the router, M1 will charge 30++ dollars. He said he got a lot of orders to fill up so do not have time. So get my signature immediately disappear.
