MBA's selling point is the battery life.
I don't think they'll want to exchange that with retina displays.

Don't expect the MBA with retina until the Intel Broadwell processor is made available to OEMs. This is the only way the MBA can have retina and yet still have respectable battery life, though if you compare MBA retina broadwell with MBP retina broadwell, it's hard to imagine how Apple can design the former to have more battery life.

I think due to the delay of broadwell, Apple decided to refresh MBA this year instead of announcing MBA retina. I agree with the other comments that Apple will rather keep MBA with a long battery life than go back to the early days of MBA where the battery life is short and the ultraportable MBA is not that portable since you have to bring the charger everywhere you go.

If you can wait, then wait. If not, you need to decide between the portability of MBA vs the MBP's retina screen.

The 13" rmbp is essentially a retina 13" mba, just ~200g heavier and with a weaker battery life.

I've got a late 2013 13" rmbp and imo the slightly better cpu and graphics card on the rmbp doesnt really translate to any significant processing power bump given that the rmbp needs to work harder due to the increased resolution.

So if you're constantly on the go, wanna travel light(not forgetting that with an rmbp, you'll probably need to carry your adapter with you sometimes) and dont have convenient access to power outlets the entire day, then get an mba.

As stated by others, Apple recently refreshed the Air so it's unlikely that a retina Air will be announced this year.
The current 13 inch Air has 54 watt-hr battery compared to the 13 inch 71.8 watt-hr battery which is significantly less.
If Apple wanted to keep the slim design of the Air and battery at 54 watt-hour the only likely way is to have a breakthrough in CPU power consumption in Intel Broadwell processor which will only be ready by Q3 2014 earliest.
