i'm using a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) (A1398), and it does not sleep when lid closed. i tried resetting SMC and NVRAM but to no avail. way past applecare warranty at this point sooo bringing it down for a repair is out of the picture for me

sounds like a software issue to me. have you tried booting into safe mode and test?

to conclusively rule out whether it is a software issue, best is to do a reformat. not sure whether you are willing to do it. or maybe do a bootable drive

can always make an appt at e Store to do a check. diagnosis is free. if repair price is reasonable then proceed to repair.

might be the sensor near the camera. Do you have the camera covered of something like tape? because i heard this will spoil the sensor near the camera including the proximity one.
