Macbook pro non retina

Hi guys,is it worth it to buy macbook pro non retina and do DIY upgrade to the ram and SSD? Will get couple of hundred dollars in savings even after I buy the minidisplay adaptor for VGA and HDMI from Amazon. I will be using my computer mostly for word documents, surfing net and watching movies.. Thanks.

I just changed to a retina one from my now dead non-retina 2010 MBP and the difference is significant. So get the retina one instead and u won't have to upgrade for some time.

But retina the parts r non upgradable already... I read reviews ppl saying non retina is also good for basic use..

non retina easier to service and diy parts. u can put in dual drives by removing the disc drive. more ram can be added too. but its a bit heavy so if u bring around a lot, it may be better to get something lighter.

Honestly speaking for retina models, always get the highest config u can afford then no need to think already. Non-retina ones to me are already obsolete so just go with retina, even if it's the base model.

I had both Mid 2012 i7 non retina and retina. Both 1TB SSD as I have lot of video , music and work photo using for aperture and adobe to do editing. Retina suppose to replace my non retina. But end up giving it to my co-worker. Simply becuase the mbp 2014 retina storage is on it limit. I just got 5TB SSD for my non retina mbp as my collection grew & usually when oversea, i hard for me to do my presentation using internet download. And like I always will link the mini display port to a bigger monitor.

But ofcoz it depend on indivual usage. With Retina is good. But with both side by side, I dont see the different unless is about the screen resolution. Photo editing and video editing, they are about the same speed.

i'll give that a BIG YES.

i still prefer the upgradable range of macbooks.. go for the 2012 models.. they are the last standing macbooks that are upgradable. carousell alot of ppl selling..

by the way, my 15" 2012 macbook pro with i7 processor and upgrade to 16gb ram, dual drive configuration (480gb ssd and 1tb hdd)... fast like hell...

note that only 2012 models have USB3.0 ports.. dun go for USB2.0.. darn slow
