I was quoted $590 for my 2009 pre-unibody 15" macbook screen replacement . . thats lot of dollars..any alternatives or just throw my mac away ???

depends on you actually. would you rather spend $590 to continue doing work/school or $1000++ for a new one.

And are you in a hurry?

if only screen spoil, connect a external monitor in clamshell mode.

for a 2009 model, personally, I won't pay so much for the screen.
