I have a friend with master in mathematics from Australia university. Hes currently working as a Quantitative Analyst at jp morgan. Starting pay ard 4k plus.

NTU Acct Grad first job pay $4K le..dun even need master

but i think TS should choose what u like rather than how much money it brings.

if u like a job ur $$ will sure come..if u dun like even if starting pay high..long term will become low

unless ur family is rich enough to support u for the rest of ur life, else, forget about pure math. u wan to take math, den add in a second deg or atleast a second major in comp sci.

Better still, do stats+comp sci double deg/maj. i believe the demand for them will be very strong in the foreseeable future.

Qunat Fin will not be easy to get in, there r very limited supply of such jobs in Singapore... unless u r open to working overseas. Anyway, the course is not goin to be easy also.

I think you mean you are not a great fan of business statistics. Theoretical statistics does require knowledge in functional analysis and measure theory. You need to do rigourous proofs too.

I thought ntu all go big 4? Then starting maybe 2.8? But I still thinking la hahaha hopefully math will pay me decently. Trying for PSC-ships but my GP too chui

I think a quantitative deg with comp sci is still going to be better. Nowadays the hype is all about data analytics and big data, and having some exposure to the field, I think it will be a really exciting career. However, I think my training in computing from my stats course is totally inadequate... Similarly, for a comp sci deg to do data analytics is not going to be an easy task as well, due to their lack of training in stats...

N there is a huge shortage of ppl that r trained in both area now. Even with my very little exposure in data analytics from internships, it has contributed a lot in my job hunt in the field... N during the interviews, the interviewers shared that they have a very hard time looking for suitable candidates

I think NTU does offer in their undergrad degrees those grad level courses. Perhaps NUS too, albeit in their Stats dept.

Can you furnish my understanding of double deg programmes? Don't the student go to different schools for different lessons rather than receive stats lesson at SoC altogether?

Also what can be expected in Computer Science? Would not mind working in IT field if it is interesting.

the onli difference between a normal deg and double deg is the graduation requirement. u need to clear more modules in order to grad with 2 degrees. and yes, stats modules are offered by stats dept which r usually held at fac of sci or utown (for NUS).. so, u may find yourself traveling back n forth btw SoC and FoS/utown. But i dun think it will be much of an issue... a single deg student may have to travel around the uni to attend different modules anyway.
