Not sure if this has been asked, but anybody have any experience with travelling to Tokyo or Japan for a matsuri or hanabi? I am thinking of experience the Sumida river fireworks next July. Is it worth the summer heat? I usually travel during spring and autumn. Would it be super crowded and hard to get hotels etc?

And, would the matsuri road processions be interesting to someone not familiar with Japanese culture?

Many thanks.

Not only the fireworks along SUmida river, most fireworks shows anywhere around Tokyo will be completely crowded 3 or 4 hours before it starts. I remember for this year, for a fireworks show that can be seen around Odaiba, restaurants that overlook Rainbow Bridge were charging like 10k yen per person. For the one that was held near Skytree, Skytree entrance fees were increased to 6k yen per person, and could only be booked online 2 or 3 months in advance.
