May I know what is "inappropriate" about my comment?
Keeping status quo for the ratio of races is something our ex-pm/mm, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, has emphasised the importance of in his many speeches/rallies.
Singapore has been giving PR and citizenship to Malaysians with very little restrictions in the early 2000s, well, at least compared to now.
You can refer to the speeches our late LKY has said in his National Day rally, and in his book. Some citations at the annex of this post.
Taking that into account, we can simply look at the birth rate of Malays and Chinese.
Chinese and Indian fertility rates has been hovering about at about 1, while Malays are consistently above 2.
If we let this trend go on, it's not possible for our ethnic composition to maintain status quo.
It is not far-fetched to say that giving Malaysian, Malaysian Chinese in particular, PR and citizenship is one of the means to maintaining the status quo for the composition of ethnic races in Singapore.
Feel free to look at the Census of population released by our govt at any given year. You won't be surprised to find how much Malaysia-born Chinese there are that contributes to our ethnic residency in Singapore.

1989 National Day Rally speech, quoted in The Straits Times, August 21st, 1989, p. 17“Let me tell you what I would think if I were an Indian. Why not 76 per cent Indians, 15 per cent Malays and 7 per cent Chinese? That is better still.
“But you know this is the real world. Let us just maintain status quo. And we have to maintain it or there will be a shift in the economy, both the economic performance and the political backdrop which makes that economic performance possible.”
The Singapore Story, 1998"Seventy-five per cent of our population of two million were Chinese, a tiny minority in an archipelago of 30,000 islands inhabited by more than 100 million Malay or Indonesian Muslims. We were a Chinese island in a Malay sea. How could we survive in such a hostile environment?"
