It's the best kept secret for almost like 10 months ago .... only a few handful are aware of this ... and finally it's announced.

I have been kept busy over these couple of months for debugging/testing on 10Gbps connection.

Do bear in mind, my unit is a prototype that comes with ASUS Aura Sync so i will not be naming it the actual SKU and specs which is similar to the ASUS RT-AX89X and it’s subjected to changes without prior notice. This is not the actual ASUS RT-AX89X.

Any performance results with the actual ASUS RT-AX89X will still embargoed until further instructions from ASUS TW HQ networking.

First look @ the actual ASUS RT-AX89X updated @ 24/08/2019

The ASUS RT-AX89X dev kit has arrived.

The is the closest/fully functional ASUS RT-AX89X router pictures that one is able to find on the WWW. I got the go ahead permission from ASUS TW HQ networking to publish all these ASUS RT-AX89X product images including the GUI in the coming days.

I will be doing all the necessary performance metrics testing and benching but the results will not be publish tho and will be embargo due to NDA further notice.

As for availability/SRP, ASUS SG will make the official announcements when it's due for official launch and retail.

This is how the actual ASUS RT-AX89X looks like.

Some of my equipment setup

Oh, those specs. I'm drooling. But what is that flat, blue cable in the one picture? Cat 7? Is that actually a thing now? I'm still rocking 5e or Cat 6. Oh, my wallet would die for this.

Yes, these are CAT 7 LAN cables.

There are even CAT 8 ones too.

In your case, it should able to suffice if only covering short distances ;)

In case you are wondering what switches i'm using.

I'm using the QNAP QSW-1208-8C non managed 10G Ethernet/SFP+ switch with multiple based-T support currently which i still have those smart/managed switches tho.

My 10G Fiber Internet setup

My setup consist of the HuaWei XGPON HN8254Q or later which is specially customised to bridge mode (so the *ASUS RT-X89X to perform the main router roles and others - no double NAT as well).

xm68sHH.jpg

*My prototype is not the ASUS RT-AX89X.

The ASUS RT-AX89X is suitable for both 10G XGPON (SingTel left only, M1 has ceased it) and Optical Ethernet (SuperInternet left only, ViewQwest has ceased it as well) from my understanding.

Powered by the next motherboard build

The ASUS Dominus Extreme

Update ~ 30/08/2019

As promised ~ the setup GUI as follows, it's was slightly delayed because of the AX89X newer firmware GUI changes, updates and fixes.

Please ignore this image if your WAN is 10G Fiber XGPON or direct 10G SFP+ OE

b7SKN0Y.png

Please ignore those posted images previously showing that my 10G SingTel Fiber are connected via Dual WAN tab options. Now you are able to configure directly either WAN 1G/WAN 10G or direct SFP+ OE upon the initial setup which was properly intended.

Awesome!

Have you also tried running your SI Optical Ethernet straight into the AX89U’s SFP+ port?

That would be my preferred option. Would also be good to know whether the supplied transceiver is compatible with the AX89U.

I have verified with ASUS TW HQ Networking that SFP+ can be used as Primary WAN as well.

As for the 10GbE WAN, it's re-mappable and swappable vice versa like the SFP+ to my QNAP 10G switch to provide 10Gbps connectivity to my multiple 10GbE NAS devices in my scenario setup.

You can to use it for provide 10Gbps connectivity LAN or connect to any managed L2/L3 or even unmanaged 10GbE switches besides all the 8x1GbE LAN as well when the SFP+ is set as primary WAN.

As for the transceiver, ASUS TW HQ networking will release a compatible list on their ASUS RT-AX89X support when the ASUS RT-AX89X is near retail.

I'm using the Finisar FTLX8571D3BNL-E5 SFP+ transceiver if you are wondering.

Hi
I intend to set up a “mesh” network for my home.
Which setup would be better:

1) Asus GT-AX11000 paired with Asus RT-AX89X

or

2) Asus GT-AX11000 paired with Asus RT-AX92U (2 sets)

Advise from the experts here would ve greatly appreciated.

You are better off with ASUS GT-AX11000 with 2 ASUS RT-AX92U if you are looking be more affordable bearing in mind that ASUS RT-AX89X is meant up to 10Gbps plans with single 10GbE/SFP+ WAN in mind and will definitely costs a lot more, besides the ASUS GT-AX11000 is tri-band (single 2.5Gbps WAN) VS ASUS dual band ASUS RT-AX89X.

Thanks for the great tech info.

How about using rt-ax89x with rt-ax95q? Is it a better option to future-proof the network environment in the house, barring the cost factor?
