MBA 2012 External Display Help

Hi I just got a mini displayport to hdmi cable to use it on my mba 2012 running mavericks but was unable to detect external display on both my LCD monitor and TV.

Reconnect the cable, try other hdmi ports, reboot machine all does not work. Anyone can help?

probably the cable is faulty. do you have other adaptors to try out the MBA's port?


anyway, i would personally not get such cables, i would get the normal adaptors and use an additional HDMI cable with it.

Alot of ppl got it and it's working well for them, see here.

Are you using the normal adaptors and additional hdmi cable?

i've used normal miniDP adaptor together with additional hdmi cable. anyway that's a personal preference.

Also, does your MBA display go off a while when you connect the cable? normal behavior when you connect a video out adaptor.
OR maybe you could try pushing it around the port as there could be a loose connection.

When I connect the cable, nothing happened, off and on the external display still the same.

Tried push in, push out around the port also nothing.

Wanna make sure it's not the macbook air side before putting it down on a faulty cable.

If you want to do that, you will need a second device to test on. Any friends with macs to let you test?

Ya that's what's I thinking but I don't have friends with macs, #foreveralone

Can I go to those challengers or apple store and ask them to help me test my mba (out of warranty) in pretend that I'm getting this kind of cable?

Hi there can you check that you have inserted the cable the right side up(there is usually a printed icon on the cable) that is suppose to face up.
I have come across people inserting Mini Display port cable and Thunderbolt cable upside down and say Thunderbolt not detecting device.

Mine MBA 2012 mini-display/thunderbolt port does not connect when you try to insert the cable upside down.
