Mechanical engineering or Business

So i'm currently in National Service, university applications are coming up. I'm unsure of what course i should take. First and foremost, i have a diploma in Bioengineering and i graduated with 3.77 Gpa. I'm currently enrolling in NUS mechanical engineering. However, i struggle to have any interest in engineering, as i i don't mind doing engineering but i want to probably do a sales or banking job in the future. My friends told me if i want to do business in the future i might as well just study business right now which is true. So i'm currently thinking of two options, switching to a business course or Mechanical engineering and a minor in business/Finance. Whats stopping me from Business is that i have no experience and background and i'm afraid i will not do well. I do know that engineering can crossover to business but not the other way around which is why i'm considering doing engineering. What should i do?

sales as in sell insurance? no need degree to do that.
lost interest in Engineering, how to do well and go into banking?
if U can get into Biz, no need to have concern over not able to cope.
not sure how NTU does things with minor. Can anyone declare a minor? if U struggle with major do they allow U to minor? U need to find out.

what kind of sales / banking u want to do? a bank is very big and there are many different kinds of roles available.

if u want to start a business u can start now already and explore. if u want to work in a business u must find the type of role u want to do.

engineers can get into banking if u have interest in finance and strong technical / analytical skills - then again it depends on what kind of role u want.

u should probably go check bank job portals and be clear what interests u then u decide from there.

NUS mechanical engineering = Can work in Public sector, Bank inductry & etc. Can work engineering or even business related jobs like sale. Can study higher education for engineering or business.

Business = Cannot work or study higher education in the field of engineering.

Do business in the future = Business degree don't teach you how to do business like getting sale or run operation. It more like preparing you to do admin works like accounting or do research and proposal.

In short, carry on with NUS mechanical engineering.

Now MAS needs Polytechnic Diploma or Degree. A lot of them cannot get into Polytechnic Diploma, so they go for Distance Learning Degree route.

I have excluded GCE A & IB Diploma from our discussion. What I am trying to express is there are a lot of applicants who do not have the foundation to go for exams like GCE A as private candidate and patient to go for 2.5 years CET Polytechnic Diploma. So getting a Private Degree is the most ideal way to go to join FA industry.

Not sure, i just don't see myself in a engineering job for now. But i have never actually been to a sales/marketing job so maybe i might want to do it but when i actually do it i might not like it. I think i prefer to do something that doesn't limit my options in the future.

Yes, thank you. I'll go look into the minors if possible might do a minor in business or finance. I don't think i have interest for business it might be because i haven't done business before so i don't have any first hand experience of what its like. It might not be the thing i want after trying it.

Thanks for the opinion, i think i might just continue with mechanical engineering. A broader subject, its easier to take up financial courses outside to add on to my degree right? If i were to business i might lose the engineering side even though i have a diploma in Bioengineering. Would my diploma still be helpful or is it too 'low level'

Banks and MNCs love business school students, and your business schools have special fairs/networking opportunities which aren't available to other students. Content is ********, you don't go 3/4 years to get the degree for its content. Seriously. It's 4 years of networking, internships, exploring, travelling, taking up leadership positions. Things you probably can't do while mugging for discrete math or computing (in Engineering).

If you're from engin and wanna apply to banks, better be the top student of the cohort or dean's list. For business students, 2nd upper is good enough. Think about it this way. Out of 100 slots, banks will give probably 80 to business kids. The 20 are reserved for "diversity" purposes. You have to compete with those from humanities, science, engin, everyone else. The reality is that business school is the first place banking recruiters go to.
