Recently went for my medical checkup and was told i had hernia. The MO told me that surgery will be costly and the cost will not be covered before enlisting. Also told me that i could wait till i get enlisted then get the surgery to get subsidised rates. However, he already referred me to SGH, can i still wait for enlisting or is it already flagged as pre-enlisting medical issues and will not be subsidised / covered?

I’m already being referred to SGH for diagnosis, should i cancel the appointment now and wait till enlistment or do. I just go for the appointment and just not get the surgery done?

if you have already been referred by polyclinic/MO, then call to postpone the appointment to aft enlistment date.
medical treatment will be covered by 11b.

surgery wont be immediate also, still need specialist consultation, then they would recommend further action.
at most, u pay for the consultation, like 50-ish only.

or to play safe, when calling to postpone, ask lor. and when go for appointment, at registration show them ur 11b and ask again.

Assuming i already went for the appointment and got the diagnosis. If i delay the surgery till enlistment do i still get the subsidised cost?

I have financial difficulties and am unable to fully pay for the surgery, am trying to get the surgery covered by SAF. I’ved done some reading and saw that most people also do the same thing.

So if that's the case, like what I have mentioned and somehow you ignored totally.

To my knowledge, yes.

To play safe, once u enlisted, go report sick. Tell the counter you want a MO referral to a particular govt hospital/govt specialist. Make sure u bring ur diagnosis results along.
Explain to the medical officer your situation, Ask the MO to write a referral to the same doctor, n also print a copy of the referral letter.

Then go for your appointment with ur referral. Pass to the counter the referral and confirm with them if everything covered by army.
