Hi, I trying to install Mi Box S, but in google play store, can't find all the apps that I usually use. For eg, meWatch.

Anyone know what is the reason? Is it a locked version?

Sorry if i sounded noob.

Thanks in advance.

from what i know, some apps got compatibility issue...so not suitable for mi box s.

u can try installing apk with thumbdrive...but i think either hard to navigate or will crash.

this may sounds silly, using phone to cast to mi box s..... :X

App developers need to have specific Android TV apps to be published on the Google Play Store, which is optimized for TV screen navigation.

Some apps do not have Android TV versions hence you cannot find in Play Store. Now the headache part is the recent Android Pie update broke a lot of things and till now no fixes in sight. Broken Chromecast, random reboots, WiFi constantly dropping, etc. Indeed a headache now. :(

Feel like buying one but are there really so many issues with it now?

Okay to buy but do not update to Android 9 Pie. Oreo 8.1 ROM is perfectly stable.

Your original Android box should be loading mobile OS version? Hence the Play Store is the mobile version with all the apps.

Not sure if Android TV OS block side-loading...

But there will be some apps that will not be available to download right?

Are there any android tv boxes which are able to download normal playstore apps like how mobile phones can?

Think for apps like MeWatch you use the in-built Chromecast feature on the Mibox S better.

I am waiting for the stick version put in another of my room tv. Smaller foot print and more features than original Chromecast
