Microsoft Office in MacAir

I have an existing licensed Office 97. Have been using it on my Windows laptop.

If I buy a MacAir now, can I use back the same Office license? Or do I need to buy a new one suited for IOS?

If next time I change to another new Mac can install on the new Mac if I uninstall from my old Mac ?

Best to buy Retail license, you can buy it for around $44 per license, you can link the office 2021 with your own email id. can be moved to another Macbook later (Life time)

Even though I have access to Office via school since I started my PT degree, I subscribe to Office 365 for my family.

It gives more than just MS Office on mulitple devices each user (I have it on my Mac, PC Laptop, iPad and 2 phones). Cloud storage with 1TB of data is the main attraction for me, and at less than $25/y per user, that's a no brainer.


For students, just use your school ID to login - there's a pretty high chance you have access to Office 365 through the school license. However, note that the administrators have access to the cloud storage (one reason why I don't use the school provided cloud).

I am not too sure if a Windows version of Office will work on Mac. Like most mentioned, if you have a few people at home that requires MS Office, just subscribe for the Office 365. You get a family pack, I think it is 5 licenses, and you also get 5TB of cloud storage, i.e. 1TB per person.

Can confirm the Windows license does not transfer to the Mac.

O365 family is 6 licenses, SG$148 RRP. If your company is on Microsoft's bring home scheme, then it's an additional 30% off, making it very compelling and hard to reject.

Even without additional discounts, SG$24.67/year/user for 6x1TB of Cloud storage alone is worth it. There's also the 60 free Skype minutes per month, if you wish to use it to call land lines overseas. To put it in perspective, using popular storage competitors:
- Dropbox, 2TB shared among family members is USD$16.99/month if paid upfront on an annual basis.
- Google One has similar prices, 2TB shared amongst 6 users, SG$139.99/y without MS Office or Skype minutes
