My migraine started manifesting around the time puberty hit me hard. Mine is the hemiplegic variety accompanied by aura and I am on Zolmitriptan and Sodium Valproate.

Will fellow migraineurs care to share how you manage your symptoms? Also appreciate if anyone who is on Erenumab (Aimovig) injections can share how effective it is for you as I am considering it. Thanks!

P.S.
My apologies if the following items below offends anybody, but as I am looking for practical advice on managing my symptoms from those who have dealt with the condition longer, I need to narrow down the advice and would appreciate if responses come from actual diagnosed migraineurs. For those who think they have migraine, before you response, please kindly be aware:

1. A headache, however severe, is NOT a migraine even if it is recurrent. Headaches are just one of the many symptoms of migraine and some migraine sufferers do not even get headaches during an attack. However, it is still best to have it checked as it can signal some other serious condition (e.g. brain tumour, aneurysm, etc)

2. Only a neurologist can confirm a migraine diagnosis. i.e. you will probably be on long term follow up with a neurologist or be given long term prescription medication for the condition if you actually have migraine.

3. If common painkillers work (including slightly more potent stuff like Tramadol) for your headache, you are *probably* not having a migraine. Migraine has a very specific list of medications and many of those are not used in the treatment of any other conditions.

4. Hormonal headaches - i.e. those which come usually at "that time" of the month, are not migraines. At least not any more based on the newer diagnostic criteria.

5. Full blown attacks of certain types of migraine can land the migraineur in NICU - migraine by itself does not kill but it can trigger certain other life threatening conditions.

Thank you!

Had my very first migraine episode last year around this period of time. I’m quite sure it was a migraine because it’s so debilitating that I couldn’t do anything but just faster take leave and leave my workplace for home straight. And yes, it came so suddenly and vomit like nobody business and after which, the light sensitivity came along.

I believe a lot of ppl mistook cluster headaches, tension headaches etc as migraines. I have colleagues claiming that they have migraine attacks but still able to function at work. If not for my Husband (who have frequent migraine attacks since teenage years too, I also won’t know I had my very first one last year.

According to my Husband and also my doctor, you gotta identify your triggers and prevent it from happening. For my case, I have yet to find out what triggers mine. My Husband’s case, lack of sleep for weeks and hot temperatures. We are both quite lucky that our work nature allow us to leave workplace for home almost immediately to rest. Other than that, we don’t think there’s any other way out.

I went to neurologist.
The doctor prescribe me Amitriptyline, Anarex and Riboflavine - 60mg.
Anarex is mainly for headache, and if it helps. I don't have to take Amitriptyline. For Riboflavine, I supposed a form of supplement that helps with long term migraine.

For my migraine trigger:
  • Busy Work
  • Using the Cell Phone too much
  • Not getting enough sleep

  • Arcoxia 120mg
  • galcanezumab
  • fremanezumab
  • chamomile tea
For a 1/10 to 5/10 pain I just use chamomile tea now. When the pain is 5/10 to 7/10 I use 60mg Arcoxia. When pain is above 7/10 I use 120mg Arcoxia. Then alternating months I use galcanezumab and fremanezumab

I tried aimovig, it is not that great for my type of headaches. But some people have other results.

Keep a headache diary. It is easier to track with a diary to check if the medicine is working.

yesterday was the second dose of my aimovig, no longer as scare when I insert the needle on my tummy like the first time, the needle is like accupunture needle only. brain feel alot more clear headed when I work up. but the drug seriously not cheap, 575 USD for a one month dose, so need to have insurance or doctor give you free dose. no side effect like constipation and muscle cramp for me.

I take arcoxia when there is a throbbing pain, I find that it works quite well.
I don't take the full 90mg, I take only a quarter to get back to sleep.

Looks like you need to see a specialist.
