I am currently using an ASUS RT N56U router with a ubiquiti AP AC PRO access point. The only feature I am missing from my Asus router is VLAN support. Did some googling and found these few routers that seem to fit my requirements
(mikrotik HEX, Ubiquiti Edgerouter Lite & X) My network consist of

  1. PleX Server accessible from the web (port forward)
  2. PI-hole
  3. File Server (Samba), Deluge client with web ui accessible by Asus DDNS
  4. unifi controller accessible from the web
  5. Open VPN server accesed by Asus DDNS

The rest of the devices are the usual mobile phones, tablets, PCs etc.

Initially decided on the EdgeRouter Lite but realised that I will need a managed switch for Vlan adding on cost and complexity. Does anyone with similar use case use an EdgeRouter X or MIkroTik HEX (seems like it has the same CPU as the EdgeRouter X) or is The EdgeRouter Lite or USG with a managed switch the best choice?

Get the USG and the UniFi switch. Using those with the UniFi controller with be the best experience
