Hi,

I might be upgrading my current Sandy Bridge system some time later this year, probably to a Skylake. I currently have a huge Lian Li full tower case, but I'm past that stage of my life now, so I'm looking at getting a much smaller mini/mid tower case. Here's the criteria:

1. Budget: Definitely below $200, preferably below $150. The cheaper, the better
2. Design: Understated, simple, no weird curves or angles, no jarring lights.
3. Performance: This will be for non-gaming uses, with at most a mid-range graphics card. Cooling performance is important but not vital.
4. Noise: Noise doesn't bother me too much, but silence is certainly appreciated.
5. Features: I have a bunch of 3.5" HDDs, so I would need at least 4 3.5"bays, and 1-2 2.5" bays. I'll also need a 5.25" external ODD bay. I would prefer 4 external USB 3.0 ports, but it does seem like many cases I've seen only come with 2.

Any recommendations that fit the above criteria? I did a bit of googling and the Nanoxia Deep Silence range and the Thermaltake Suppressor F31/F51 seem pretty good, but I don't see them in price list.

You might as well go for mATX.

Replace the 4 HDDs with a single WD 6 TB Black and you will not need such a big case. Dump the ODD as well. Unless you use the ODD a lot, external works just fine. As for the USB 3.0, you can easily get a USB 3.0 front panel with an additional 2 ports, in addition to the usual 2 on the case. Do note that not many motherboards have onboard connectors for 4 front panel USB 3.0 ports. Actually, I'm not sure why you need 4 on the front panel since your MB will have 4 or more at the back I/O.

This way, you will have a lot more flexibility in choice of case.

i don't think there are any mini case that can support
4 x 3.5"bays
1-2x 2.5" bays
1x 5.25" external ODD bay
4x external USB 3.0 ports

4 external USB 3.0 ports

means your motherboard must have 2x USB3.0 19/20pin headers

usb 3.0 cables very irritating. super thick. any workaround/replacement for usb3.0 cables?

Looks pretty good. How much is it, and how's the cooling and thermal performance? Design is a bit run of the mill though.

Thanks. Didn't check this one out. There's also the 350D which is smaller and more interesting. Anandtech rated it pretty highly as well.

Thanks for the advice. I can probably dump the ODD, though since I already have it, might as well use it. As for HDDs, I'd rather continue using my existing ones. Not averse to mATX/mini ITX either.

Hey this looks pretty good as well, but thermal performance seems to be lacking though.
