Missing songs from iTunes library

Been purchasing songs from iTunes Store which are stored in my iTunes library. Recently discovered couple of songs missing. Apple replied the album had been modified or removed. And they can't restore my purchases. Problem is I didn't save them in my computer. Normal procedure is to backup and sync on a regular basis. Has anyone encountered tis issue before? *miffed*
