I have this weird monitor problem. My monitor is Dell U2311H, 6 years old. There is a stain inside the monitor that spreads. It is not on the surface of the monitor.

Here are photographs.

The stain does not show up on alt-printscreen screenshots.

It has been growing for the past week.

Is there any way to fix this at reasonable cost? Who can repair this, any suggestions? Or am I going to be forced to junk the monitor?

(Also willing to hear from anyone who will buy from me this monitor.)

I am hoping for more helpful replies than stuff along the lines of 'monitor old already'.

Otherwise practically every single 'help' question for hardware more than a couple years old can be answered the same way.

I would say it's common to all monitor. even my 10 years(I think) Philips LED monitor. have yellowish and this stain plus bright white all over place. although still can see, just that I dun use that com as it's my printing com.(since it still have parallel port to use that printer.)

oh yea my u2312 also have a burn effect after its been turn on and not using for a few hours and when I come back I notice those thing but it when away after a while.

Electronic waste the recycling guys will pay some money for it. Otherwise just dispose as bulky waste.

Bad LCD panel. Cannot be fixed without hardware replacement which would probably cost more than a new monitor.

No trade in,resale value of old monitors are very little.
Either at NEA e waste bins or Dell have their own recycling.
The price to replace the panel, you are
Better off with changing a new one.
You can call Dell and check but it is won't be worth it.

why would anyone want a broken monitor? Now people need bigger panels, and 120Hz

Sorry, I mean the monitor is spoil and no more warranty.

Dell's business practices now include making products that will not last. 6 years seems to be right since they are already doing it since back then too.

Products that lasts will equate to taking a potential consumer out of the market. If that happens, then nobody needs to buy a new one and their business will suffer.

So instead of relying on innovation, they make products designed to fail after a period of time. So they can once again have your hard earned money.

Acer has been turning over a new leaf and doing different business practices. So right now, if you want a monitor that will last you a while, go with Acer.

LG, like Linus has mentioned, drops their product support way too fast in like even 1 year like their TVs. So best to avoid them if you want to risk your last updated firmware being buggy.

Samsung, their TVs seem to last even till now. Not sure about their monitors but should be good. Their LED panels are great.
