Please help me decide :s11:

Usage will be mainly for MMO games + watching movies.

Thanks in advance.

The panels are different right? Dell uses IPS while Samsung runs VA if I am not mistaken.

Yes, many games now natively support 21:9. Here's the listing FYI:

http://www.wsgf.org/mgl

Any bros seen & compared the 2 monitors before?

U need to see the monitors for yourself to make a decision. U can find the Samsung ultrawide on display at Funan Challenger (lvl 6). The Dell ultrawide is on display at Dell Direct Showroom, Funan Lvl 3.

Been thru this dilemma before. All I can say is, 21:9 resolution sux. Youtuve videos appear stretched at fullscreen. 21:9 movies have a black border ard them at fullscreen (not supposed to happen in theory, but u can test it out ob the Dell ultrawide). Games look average on 21:9 mode (a bit more field of view, but thats all u got compared to typical 16:9). On some games, the story mode reverts back to 16:9, so u get back the ugly black borders on both sides.

My conclusion: the 34 inch ultrawide is for those who want to multitask, who want the screen estate of dual-screen monitor setups conpacted into a single screen. For typical ging scenarios, 16:9 would serve u better.

My recent monitor journey has been 2711 -> 3014 -> 3415w -> QX2710 -> Philips 40' 4K.

My recommendation is that instead of going 21:9, go instead to 4K assuming your GPU can support it at a decent setting. When using 3415W, there are 2 issues with widescreen 3440 by 1440;
Gaming

1. Native support. I'm still baffled that such a popular game like Fifa doesnt have support for widescreen. Not even widescreen.org have a solution... then Fifa16 is coming, so there may be hope there. The good news is most if not all recent games all support widescreen so there is no need to worry at all.

2. Native resolution support but lousy scaling.. some games scale very badly.. one i can think of is Warcraft an old game.. it has the resolution support but everything is stretched so bad i switched to 2560/1440 when playing. There is another game but suddenly forgot the title as i dun play much.

Movies wise on the other hand is excellent. i tried Hobbit and it was a great experience with the multiple huge landscape scenes. If your source has the right resolution all is fine.

Productivity wise
both 21:9 and 4k are equally good.. use application to allow splitting of your desktop into multiple section to fully make use of the desk space.

Disable display scaling in high DPI settings - go right click game exe icon and go under compatibility to set. can resolve scaling issues.

I will go for VA panel from Samsung instead. No ips glow, and also a much more premium finishing. Pretty solid if you were to ask me.

VA black contrast is nice.

This.. i have to agree that VA panel is really good with the Blacks.... can see the difference compared with IPS/PLS panel.

most 40 inch tv are no 4:4:4 chroma with higher than 24ms input lag rendering most games not enjoyable.

dont anyhow recommend.

did you know about the philips 4k tv?
more then enough for mmo gaming and movies, if you are referring to a serious fps gamer, then dont think there is any 34 inch that is 120/144hz...

For this type no choice u must set resolution to 2560/1440 then it will look correct but with black bars by the side :(
