Motherboard or PSU?

Put together a rig today and upon pressing the power button, power led on the case came on and went off in a second.

After that, nothing happens even when I press the power button.

Suspecting its the PSU, did the paper clip test. Nothing.

Replaced with another PSU (passed paper clip test), rig still do not respond. No lights on motherboard.

Could it be a dead motherboard?

M/b and CPU was bought from TP yesterday. Called and was told to bring both m/b and CPU back.

Anyone had experience with 7days exchange of m/b with TP before? Is it ok that I do not bring back the sata cables, io faceplate etc?

Nothing at all. 24Pins ATX and 8pins CPU power from psu to mobo, think I couldn't have got that wrong.

Can't take pics, already took the rig apart and boxed the mobo.

That's what I thought too. It was like no power at all. Even the second psu which had its fan turning during the paper clip test also kept totally still when plug in to the mobo, regardless I try the case power switch or the on board power switch.

Seems like the first time you on the system, something tio short and fry your stuff.

Did you screw on the stand-offs for your mobo when you assembled it?

Motherboard no light with 2 PSU mean its either processor or motherboard. unplug everything from the case, try again with CPU+HSF, RAM and motherboard alone. if HSF fan spin up then its wire or somewhere shorted.

Did the CPU/HSF fan spin? If yes, then maybe your motherboard or CPU(although quite rare) might have shorted out. It happened to mine, went to RMA it and it works properly now.

I've brought the mobo back to the shop and they tested it and confirm cannot power up at all. Got a replacement (took half a day, but that's another story) and now the rig can power up.

But now, initial observation is a new SSD at SATA_0 cannot be detected in the bios. Have yet to investigate further. Just hope it's not fried.

For info, mobo is Asrock Z87 Extreme 6, SSD is Samsung 840 series 250GB.

Try using SATA3_1 or different cable.
