Motherboard or ram problem?

Hi everybody i just built a new computer and everything was working fine until this morning when i boot up my desktop and it gave me an error page fault in no pages area i googled and saw that it may be a ram problem. I re insert my ram and booted it up again and this time it worked but only one 8gb ram slot was detected. I went to take both out again and re insert this time nothing booted up and my nothing comes out on the monitor. My question is is this a ram problem or a problem with the motherboard? Any help would be appreciated thanks
