IMO the Gigabyte Gaming 7 looks cleaner and neater than the MSI Gaming M7. And packs dual LAN which u can swap between Intel and Qualcomm. Gigabyte Gaming 7 feels more value-for-money, though colour scheme wise both are suited for different builds.

Yeah, I also life Giga looks, and it uses Creative, but I like MSI's Gaming Hotkey, macro progamming, Single keystroke OC & Super Charger.

Still havent decide which one to get.:s11:

I'm assuming u r buying either of the boards paired with Intel i7-6700K. My advice, if u haven't decided and can't decide what to get, just go for Haswell-E. :D For that $900 u r gonna spend on a Giga/MSI Z170 + i7-6700K combo, an MSI X99 SLI-PLUS + Intel i7-5820k costs cheaper. :)

yes, i getting a z170 with a 6700K.
Why u suggest X99 mobo? is it a better opt?

X99 combo is abt the same or slightly cheaper than the i7 Skylake + Z170 combo.

For around the same price u sacrifice some motherboard features for 2 extra CPU cores and 4 extra threads.

And Haswell-E chips have better temps than Skylake coz their IHS is soldered while Skylake is still using TM.

And i7-5820k has 28 PCIe3.0 lanes, compared to 16 in i7-6700k.

Lastly, Haswell-E allows quad-channel DDR4 memory while Skylake only allows dual-channel DDR4.

Just to make viewpoint more balanced:

Price largely depends on the board you used, so if go 6700k and entry Z170 vs 5820k and entry X99 board the price still same meh? Entry 6700k combo costs around 700+, but entry 5820k comes in at least 950. 250 maybe quite a sizeable difference depending on one's budget.

I also acknowledge: 5820k and entry mobo price matches high-end z170 and 6700k price. So if getting high end Z170 board, literally better off by getting the 5820k combo for two extra cores and 12 pcie lanes. And that people who requires that hyperthreading/extra cores utilise them anyway.

All in all, bell and whistles and what not, Z170. At performance and value/functionality stand point, X99. If budget does not permit even entry X99, perhaps a more budget Z170 board accompanied by 6700k should do trick.

Haha. :s13:

Despite your attempt, u didnt even try to make the viewpoint more balanced. :s13:

To make it more 'balanced', u needed to point out why i7-6700k + MSI Gaming M7/ Gigabyte Gaming 7 is better than the i7-5820k + MSI X99 SLI Plus.

Instead u sent out a totally different message: "please buy a cheaper Z170 board instead" :s13:

6700k has better single core performance tha haswell-e. Unless ur games or programmes highly threaded performance might actually decrease

10% increase per core leading to overall 10% increase from all 4 cores aint gonna match a 50% increase by having 2 additional cores. Thats performance wise. And current games are still GPU bottlenecked. Even in situations where CPU becomes the bottleneck, like in DX12 games, 6-core CPU still wins over 4-core CPU.

The high-end Z170 boards really for aesthetics. Not much performance gain from pairing high-end Z170 boards with i7-6700k.

Was overly engrossed in the 'cost' part.

Yeah my point is largely directed at value-6700k sets. Otherwise, arguing cost wise, not worth to get high-end Z170 boards unless you don't mind spending more for bells and whistles
