So I was intending to build a rig with the MSI R7970 Lightning Edition Boost Edition but it turns out that there are no stock and shops at SLS don't even know when stock will be coming in.

Will the R7970 Power Edition be good replacement? Or will I be better off getting a Nvidia card?

The 7970 Power Edition shld cost u $589, Lighting Edition cost $685. Really depends on wad u intend to do. If u intend to use it for pure gaming only, the 7970 would suit u best. If u intend to game + do some intensive stuff with it (video/photo editing, animation, etc), i recommend u get a Gigabyte GTX 670 OC 2GB DDR5 at $589 or Asus GTX 670 DCUII 2GB DDR5 at $629.

I'm not entirely sure but I think that the Lightning has been discontinued.

And yes, I only intend to use it for gaming. And maybe recording my gaming sessions and editing them.
