Hi!I'm actually keen in learning MMA. However from what I read it seems like it is better to start with muay thai as MMA is much tougher? and especially when i'm a girl. Any recommendations which gym to go?

-Those trainers that will focus on the foundation as I do not have any background and I'm quite inflexible
-Not too expensive

Please advice!

Oh okay I see! Stamina wise I'm quite okay as I'm an athletic. But as for basic combat moves where will you recommend? And combat classes as in beginner class? Sorry I'm really quite confused about this!

It really depends on why you are keen on learning MMA. Is it for self defence? Is it to keep fit? Is it for love of the specific martial art? Is it to be competitive in the future?

It's not that MMA is 'tougher'. Physically wise all martial arts (competitive) would require that degree of stamina etc. But it's because MMA is a combination of stand up and grappling skills. So it'll be good to have a foundation in either a stand up game or grappling/ground game before venturing into MMA so you won't get overwhelmed by all the things you have to do like....punch kick take down/countering a double leg/side control/mounting/kick counters etc.

So you might either want to start learning Muay Thai or BJJ first. That's what i did, for the last 2-3 months i learnt both and in fact had my first MMA lesson today at IMPACT mma gym. With the prior knowledge i had, it made it slightly easier for me to absorb what was taught and utilise it

You could just go to one of those CC muaythai/judo/bjj lessons for a few months before joining. If you're a student, Fight G and Impact MMA offers very cheap student plans. ~100$ not inc of sign up fees. Then you could just go for the MT or BJJ lesson first

Is more of self defence and part of the reason to keep fit! I don't think it will be for competitive purpose haha!
Actually I don't have love for a specific martial art. Maybe because I'm still not into it yet 😅

Alright I see! Thanks for explaining to me :) I think I will start with muaythai since I wanted to learn a few years back but due to certain reasons I didn't get to and the feeling slowly die down, but it is coming back again :D
By far how's your training at impact like? I heard a lot about impact MMA, and is the beginner class very different from the usual classes, cause it will be more convenient for me to go on weekdays and however the beginner class is only on Sunday

Do you know which CC has it? From what I know, tanglin have one, is there others along CBD to north west area?
I read many reviews saying that fightg trainer is pretty good however the place is overcrowded and they are lack of manpower? And since I'm still new to it, more attention is needed. I don't want to end up practising the wrong things over and over again 😅 I had been considering impact MMA however I'm having my internship now and I can't make it for the earlier timing. Got to say bye to my student plan :(

Okay! thank you so much!:) As in during training those people are the non beginner, and when we pair up. Will it in a sense like make me skip the fundamental since that is not the beginner class ? Because as I mentioned earlier I'm quite inflexible and I don't want to rush things thru and injured myself.
Ps. I've phobia from injuries because it caused me to stop all kind of trainings for almost a year 😭

I'm currently also training at one at UBI cc every sunday 3-5pm. they charge 150$ for ten session (1 term). It's not bad, but just too infrequent for my liking. Not sure about the rest, you might have to google them. There are a few places with weekend timings tho. Impact seems pretty decent actually. weekend classes are until 5pm iirc

If that's the case, start with a martial art rather than "body combat" or whatever other class out there. What liftstrong said makes a lot of sense too.

You're training really hard man! Jiayou!! Looks like there are really little choices from cc. Yup! is around that timing :) I suppose I'm going to a cc before going to impact MMA or something haha

And it says "Class Requirements and Remarks:

Materials fee: Skipping Rope $15/- and Boxing Glove & Shin Pads $60/-."
Am I supposed to get my materials or?

Do you stay in the west? Bukit baton cc offers Jiujitsu class. My sensei has silat and karate background as well.

Class gets really practical for self defense and it provides a good enough workout as well.

BTW I got punched in the nose before. It sucks I tell you.

Okay noted! How about you? what martial art are you in? Or maybe which gym are you at now?

I stay at woodlands, and this is kinda a pain in the ass since my office is at Harbourfront. I will end up travelling around sg 😂
Based on your experience is the trainer good? And will the class be too big and you end up getting neglected?

Oh God bless your nose 😯

Best part is classes are small and the trainer is great and experienced. Can come by for a try out.

Learn basic strikes, throws, grappling and self defense.

Trainings are on Mondays and Thursdays at bukit batok cc 8pm to 10pm, only $50 a month if you're a passion card user. Super affordable if you asked me.

Just drop by any day? And there is attire required? Yup by far the cheapest I guess!

-I always try to contact the gym before I come down if possible. I went to impact ytd for Their bjj trial class and got turned away cause I didn't have a gi. A just in case kinda thing. Important because not all gyms do no gi grappling.and gis can cost from 120-300$ at most places :(

-Shin pads are for sparring, wouldn't see why you'd need it right now if you're just gonna practice fundamentals first.

-You can get a lot of equipment for.cheap off Carousell if you don't mind second-hand stuff. Got my gloves, wraps and bag off there.

-I think there are a few fight gyms in the west. Bia Muay thai and colosseum mma.. Might wanna search abit more
