Hi guys, paisei,my first post and need help in booking air ticket and a hotel room for my solo trip to Tokyo. Have not travel aboard for quite some time and first time booking on my own.
I have 2 name on my passport, a dialect name and a hanyu pinyin name in brackets
E.g. tan chee peng
(Cheng zhi ping)
How should I input or enter my name for my booking? Should I leave out my Hanyu pinyin name ? I intend to use zuji & agoda for my booking. Please advice

Leaving out my hanyu pinyin name, would there be a problem when I check in at the hotel in Tokyo? And thanks for the quick reply

Hotels honestly care. I've always booked hotels with just my christian name (my passport has my Christian name as well) + surname. Left out given name. And I've not been rejected from hotels a single time all these while.

For air tickets, they are a little stricter, but whether surname first or surname last, it doesn't really matter (unless you want your air ticket records to tie with your FFP, then you need to make sure name on airtix is same as the name in your FFP account).

I've got air tickets issued to me with <surname><given name>, as well as some with <given name><surname>. They went through immigration/customs/boarding officers with no issue.

I've got hanyupinyin + dialect name in my passport too. I've never used hanyu pinyin ever before on my air tickets or hotel. So don't need to worry about that.

Can confirm with above posters. No need to include hanyupinyin for airline tickets (I never did and no one ever turned me down from boarding the plane before). Hotels also never bothered me about the hanyupinyin before, so don't worry.

Thanks for all your advice, much appreciated. Will leave out my hanyu pinyin name. I emailed zuji & agoda and they told me to input my name as per passport and to contact the airline directly. I just dun no how to input both my names under last & first name. Should i include the brackets that comes with my hanyu pinyin name as well?
I feel much more relieved after seeking advice from here. Thanks :)

Just stick to your dialect name. No need to include Hanyu Pinyin. Have done it multiple times with my SO's dialect name only, even for the dis/embarkation cards.

I got first name, middle name, last and pinyin name in my passport. Usually when I buy air tix, I only use first, middle and last name only (e.g. TOM THOMAS TAN). It was accepted for many years.

However, when I went Japan in June, JAL refused to accept and I had to change the name on my tix to my full one. They said that Japan customs are more strict now; name on the air tix MUST match name in passport. So they had to squeeze everything in; TOMTHOMAS TANAHKOW.

Freaking made my pay $50+ for the admin fee.

What I know is best to follow the name written in the bottom part of your passport where there is the ">>>>>>>" , not the printed one above for immigration wise.

Use

CheePeng Tan

So you have a last name, and a first name. Middle name is blank.

To cite an example like the picture above. The important part is the machine readable information. As such, the name to put in this case would be "Fred Wiremu John"

This information was given to me by SQ ground staff

Put first name: John jack ah fok. Last name: tan

Got this problem when my child flying so airline advised me to put like this. So far no problem.
