Need Advice for Building New PC!

Hi guys!

I'm looking to build my own PC sometime this year, and being relatively new at it, would appreciate if you could recommend the components for the PC!

Budget will be looking at around 1.5k - 2k.
Requirements fairly light: games largely Dota 2 and Fifa, movies, multiple spreadsheets and other applications like R and Java - in summary, mostly work related with some gaming here and there.

If possible, I would really like 2 IPS monitors and a mechanical keyboard in the setup!

Put together the best part list I can, from the info you provided, and I'll be basing it on black and white color scheme, feel free to change out anything!

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X PWM LGA2011 [$59]

Monitors: 2x Dell S2316H 23" IPS Monitor w/ HDMI [$185 x 2]

Grand total of $1859!

That should give you some leeway for a mechanical keyboard. The reasons why I chose a 1060 instead of 1050ti was because I wanted the build to be able to play some games that you might jump into in the near future. 16GB instead of 8GB RAM was because there's a lot more room for you to do stuff on your computer without having to worry about running out of RAM and for your PC to start stuttering. 8GB is still plenty though, unless you're a heavy Chrome guy like me.

I chose the SSD for obvious purposes, your operating system and core applications or loved games you may have, and the HDD for your movies and more games. Now obviously you don't really need 650W for this build but I wanted to give you some headroom in case you want to upgrade or add more parts in the future. Last but not least, I chose a i5-7500 due to its capability in gaming and overall performance at a great price point, and it seemed plenty for your needs!

Personally I'd have went for a NZXT S340 Elite Black/White but seeing as I was getting out of your budget, I decided to go with good ol' Tecware.

Hope you're happy with what I suggested, put quite a bit of effort into this lil' list.

Just a further quick question - where's the recommended place(s) to get these parts? I understand that online stores (e.g. Lazada, Amazon) can be cheaper but warranty can be an issue vs a local warranty from a Singapore based store - whats the preferred option usually?

CPU cooler is overkill. Change to Cryorig M9i. Cheaper and perform equally quiet as this is a locked skew cpu. Supposed the stock cooler is enough if you can bear with the noise.

Ram is overkill. Normal corsair vengeance lpx 2400mhz is best suited for b250/h270 series mobo as your motherboard cannot overclock the ram further than that speed. Vengeance LED is either 3000mhz or 3200mhz, while look nice, post no benefit at all in the build. If you willing to fork out money for the colour, G.Skill Trident Z RGB have 2400Mhz variant for that.

WD blue 1tb $72 is cheaper yet perform the same.

PSU overkill. EVGA B450 is enough to even power a gtx 1070. If you want headroom for upgrades, EVGA GD 550W 80+ Gold perhaps is the better alternative.

Money saved put into a better casing like Fractal Design Define Mini C or Corsair Spec M2. These are easier to build and manage the cables. Tecware F3 is not friendly to work with, especially the cable management, although it's the best value for money case you can find.

The RAM I looked up in the SLS website was 2666MHz, and the reason why I looked that up was because I was basing it on a color scheme while trying to keep prices down.

Yep, completely forgot about the 80+ gold tag with PSUs. Went with WD Black as I said before, color scheme but it probably won't be seen much since we'll be throwing it in a drive bay anyway, lol. My bad!

I would definitely get parts from a local store like Sim Lim Square to save the hassle of shipping, including fees. But of course, you would have to shop carefully, do your research or go with a friend who's experienced with SLS so you don't get scammed.

@RyanCMH focus on functionality first, achieving the best specs per dollar before focusing on aesthetic. Not everyone is fond of it (especially if one chooses to put their rig on the floor, your effort in making a pc that look nice will be wasted), unless specified, otherwise build base on performance because aesthetic easily pull $100-$400 more just to look nice.

Good advice above

Personally, I prefer WD Black over Blue if you have the budget for the extra 2-year warranty for about $40 more compared to Blue. Performance-wise you probably won't notice the difference

R5-1600 is also better than i5-7500 if you can squeeze it in your budget.

GPU can down to 1060 3GB if just doing light gaming. Can save $150+. 6GB is not that big of a jump in performance as compared to a 1070. Can upgrade in the future when you need to.

Also, if parts are cheap on Lazada/Qoo10 don't be afraid to buy as long as you read the reviews first
