Need advice on new MB

Hi,

Been out of HW for a while since my last upgrade.
Looking to upgrade to Giga Z390M Gaming MB.

Just want to confirm the following 2 points:


The MB comes with 2x M.2 slot, can i confirm the MB will works with 2 Samsung 970 EVO Plus Nvme SSD at full speed ?

1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 PCIe x4/x2 SSD support)
1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280 SATA and PCIe x4/x2 SSD support)


Also,
the MB have 2 ATX-12V connectors (1x 4-pin & 1x 8-pin molex connectors) on top of the usual 24pin connector,
Must both the 4-pin & 8-pin connectors be connected to the PSU or either one will do ?

Will be running i7-8700 with an old sound card & low-end video card.

PCIe and M.2. M.2 PCIe SSDs use PCIe data transfer lanes to accelerate data transfers. The NVMe controller connected to PCIe 4.0 4x enables the M.2 SSD to achieve very high performance. The configuration scales performance up to intensive database workloads with high transfer speeds and potentially thousands of processing queues. There is also a distinct performance boost depending on the number of PCIe lanes. An M.2 SSD with an NVMe controller on a PCIe x2 transfer data at about 15.75Gb/s. But double 2x to 4x, and the speed doubles to about 31.5Gb/s.
Also,

if u dont intend to overclock 8Pin one will do.

In summary, there is something called pcie lanes. How fast your nvme will be depends on how much available lanes there are and the speed limit of the nvme itself, whichever is the bottleneck.

CPU itself provide lanes, particularly for GPU.
Chipset itself provide lanes, particularly for other part of pc like USB, SSD, HDD, nvme, 2nd gpu, etc
Z390 chipset is high end chipset, it has more than sufficient lanes for your nvme, provided you have no other components using great amount of lanes
