Going to built a rig after 7 years since my last rig. Many new technology have surfaced and i am pretty out of touch. I have shortlisted what i want to buy. Main concern is the kind of $$$ spend. Will not overclock , if there is no reason for me to do so. Please advise and comment

CPU & Mobo: i5-3570K & Asrock Z77 Extreme4 @ $475
Ram: G.Skill 1866mhz 1x8GB @ $95
ODD: Any DVD DVD RW @ $25
SSD: Plextor M5P PRO 128GB @ $155
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 1TB @ $82
GPU: Powercolor 7870 Myst Ed @ $315
Case: Xigmateck Arc Midi @ $99
PSU: Seasonic M12II 520W @ $109
COOLER : CM Hyper 212 EVO @ $65

Total: $1423

If you don't intend to overclock, drop the Z77 mobo and K cpu to B75/H77 mobo and non-k cpu.
Ram: Kingston 1600mhz value ram 8GB @ ~$72
ODD: HP DVD RW @ $25
SSD: Plextor M5P PRO 128GB @ ~$150
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 1TB @ ~$80
GPU: Powercolor 7950 PCS @ $385
Case: Asgard Midgard II @ $87
PSU: Seasonic M12II 520W @ ~$100

Total: $1199
Buy and build at Tradepac.

Some things to take note when dealing with Tradepac:

  • Be firm with your decision when buying from Tradepac. Don't be swayed by their sales assistant to upgrade and buy more expensive components which you don't require.
  • Check all the components you plan to purchase are correct before you make payment.
  • Stay at the shop and supervise them as they assemble your rig and make sure they return all spare chassis parts. You might want to take note that Tradepac cable management skills may not be up to your satisfactory level.
