When are you heading there? Depending on your month of travel, 8D isn’t a lot to see. Plus a lot of the attractions are spaced out and require quite a bit of traveling if you’re taking public transport.
Otaru can be a day trip from Sapporo, and perhaps you can stay for 3-4N. Hakodate probably good for 2N. How about Asahikawa or even these popular onsen towns - Lake Toya, Jozankei, Sounkyo, Noboribetsu?
It is a long way from sapporo to hakodate. So maybe the remaining 2 days can spend it somewhere along the way to break up the journey? E.g. Lake toyaI'm planning to go on 17th - 24th March. But I scared that too many days over in Hokkaido will be too much? Never been there before so I wouldnt know. so if hakodate needs 2 nights, Sapporo 3 nights, the remaining 2 nights any suggestion?

Actually for my case, if I could afford, I’ll probably stay 3-4 weeks to visit the east side. Are you traveling with kids or elderly? All these have to be taken into consideration.
You’re going during the off peak season so there won’t be crowds, easier to manage too. Rooms are cheaper too. Like what evilerniex suggested, break your journey all up so that it won’t be too taxing.
Also depends on what you would like to do. Checking off your list or more? Relaxed or fast-paced trip? How about factory tours and Nikka whisky distillery? Shopping - outlet malls? I find there’s a lot of food to try in Sapporo, but not so much on shopping. How about skiing or snowboarding? Or winter activities such as snowshoe-trekking, snow mobiling, smelt fishing and others?
Can’t go for so many weeks due to leave constrain... haha.. am traveling with my Friend so e like to do some relaxing stuffs instead.. if times allow, would like to visit some factory tours . For shopping, we don’t really do much, only wanna relax and chill and some sight seeing.
If you into food and shopping, Sapporo Station don't even need to step out can eat and shop until you go crazy.
