I dont have any knowledge about pc hardware and all I had was an old pc passed down from my brother and recently it went dead on me.
I've always wanted a desktop I can call my own xD so I decided to buy one.

I actually intended to go for pre built pcs from department stores but all my friends said that with the amount of money I spent on pre built pcs I can get a better specs self built pc.

Was looking at aftershock but then read some reviews and don't know whether they are reliable or not too... :/

I will be using the pc for gaming (w.o.w/league/pubg/overwatch),be using emulators like nox at the same time and live streaming my gameplay too.

Pretty sure I need wifi card too cause the modem and router is in the recreation room and my pc's gonna be in my room. I read that for smooth streaming it's best to have cabled connection so I'm a little bit lost as well.

Computer accessories will be needed as well

* 2 monitor (1 for gaming / 1 for monitoring chat window/ObS)
*keyboard and mouse
*speakers

I don't really have a budget actually but maybe can help suggest a rig that works smoothly and isn't going to overkill much at the lowest price you can think of..

Also it'll be best that I can get all the parts at a reputable shop from a single place so that I can get them to assemble for me with or without a fee cause I know NOTHING about pc hardware xD i scared go down alone then kanna chop or scam haaaha so I decided to ask for some help/guidance from people who know their stuffs here~~~

Sorry for my long post and grammar mistakes xD..
Sincerely hoping to get a reply soon.. my friends all waiting for me to start streaming with them xD

Sounds like some ah xia kia. Anyway, your desktop died on you, but then why you need to purchase peripheral as well? Not sure if Gen8 i5 can support but you might consider on i7. Or perhaps AMD?
Also with the amount of things you gonna run, I think you will need 4x kit. Look for water cooling also since it looks really nice and keep your temperature low if you plan to OC.
No budget then go for 1080 which maybe few years time you can resale to upgrade your GPU.
I’m greenhorn so don’t take my advice too seriously, wait for old birds advice and maybe do some research while you are free.

Threadstarter's post is full of contradictions

Have plenty of technical knowledge yet don't know anything. <= ORLY?????

Service is under-rated
Lack of knowledge will prefer a support oriented route, compared to a DIY route.

What you save in $$$, you end up spending more time in support, which takes away the time you could have spent on content creation, which means you end up losing $$$/fun to pay for school fees in troubleshooting.

FIRSTLY
Departmental Stores will sell a prebuilt system from a brand. This is higher priced due to the support obligations. Nothing to get chopped here. You pay for the brand much as you would pay for luxury goods from Apple, LV, Mercedes.... If going this route, getting a high powered gaming PC will be the easiest fit.

SECONDLY
Self Built PCs will give you better specs, but the drive towards better specs will also go into overkill.

THIRDLY
Streaming is all about content. Entertainment is key
Eyecandy can either take a front or back seat.

FOURTHLY
The basic streaming gear comprises of a an I7 PC with 16gb ram, an Nvidia based graphic card for Shadowplay, 512gb SSD, 2 or 4tb hdd, webcam, headset with mic.

Graphic card, will depend on your budget. Because it all depends on the level of eyecandy that you can accept. If no budget, just shoot for the top like a Titan XP FE. If got budget, can look at a GTX1080TI / 1080 / 1070TI / 1070 / 1060 depending on the fit of the budget

FIFTHLY
STREAMING is not equal to SCREAMING
You can have a high powered rig that may be belting out at the top of its voice, jostling for supremacy with you. Considering where the rig will sit will also determine how noisy the pc can be

LASTLY
Accessories like Webcam and headset / mic also boils down to personal preference
There are small headsets to the point of the headset being near invisible, to large clunky ones that sits on your head.
A webcam can also be something like a bare basic USB webcam, or a full fledged video camera

In short
All you need is a high powered gaming pc.
There is no need for overclocking.
There may be a possibility for a need for bling
If possible go for a small rig so you can carry it easily if it needs some work to be done to it.

What you are looking for, you can make do with $1500 excl monitors or it can be a multiplier of that.

So the best is to decide/seek approval on a budget, as that will determine the graphic card you will slot into your set. ;)

S/He got no budget but wish to spend the lowest amount, however I do agree on getting prebuilt instead. The way TS type seems like really really young, remember to consult your parents opinion before buying :s22: (Sorry if you're not that young as I think)

Things to consider:

1. Professional streamers use a second PC to capture the gameplay, as streaming requires real-time encoding of the gameplay and this is CPU intensive.

A lot of streamers have tested the AMD Ryzen 7 series and found it works great for a single system gaming and streaming center.

2. No need for water cooling, but then make sure your PC is not next to your mic.

3. No need for nVidia, but they are the better gaming cards now.

4. Have an SSD for your stream recording media.

5. Wifi...? For streaming?? No. Just no. Either have proper cables pulled or don't do this.

1) how willing are you to troubleshoot issues as they occur? (this will determine pre-built or diy)
2) how serious are you about streaming? (this will determine specs of the computer or computers)
3) do you need quality stream or anything goes? (software vs hardware encoding, shadowplay vs obs/xplit/others, etc.)

*edit: i see pubg. guess that locks you in to Nvidia for the graphics card :s13:

Actually

The Nvidia Shadowplay thing also makes it simpler to stream in-game captures.

Had a neighbour's son who wanted to stream games on a $500 budget and all i could think of was SKIP OBS coz the cpu/gpu prowess would be better off with the game. :)

you need at least r5-1600 or i5-8400 for software encoding (single pc for streaming) and those cpus are impossible to fit in a 500sgd budget

so yeah, shadowplay ftw in that scenario

If you don’t really have an interest in PC hardware, I suggest going for pre built so that you get some support, and don’t have to troubleshoot if something fails.

Hello~~ thank you for taking time to read and reply in such a detail manner really appreciate it..
Firstly i will like to clarify that I didn't state that I have plenty of knowledge about computer hardware.. perhaps you read it wrongly ? XD

I have gave your suggestions and advices a thought and I agree with you saying that even tho pre builts are higher priced but they do offer support obligations and for someone like me i guess it's better to go for them. I've heard from this forum from a friend of mine so I thought maybe I can ask for some advices before I spend money on pre builts without even knowing what i really need.

So basically I will look for a pre built with these components and specs after reading all the helpful replies~~

i7 with at least 16gb ram
512gb sad , 2 -4 tbhdd
Graphics card nvidia titan xp fe/ GTX 1080 ti

Is there anything else to look out for mainly ? :O

As for the other peripherals i will mostly like take a look around the store something around 24" 144hz.

And you state that there may be a need for bling.. may i know what does that mean ?

Haaaha im a working adult already just that I don't own a pc before all i had were hand downs from my brother..

I have no budget really because recently got lucky with lottery but I don't like to over spend for something that goes beyond my needs sorry if I sound weird here.. I don't know how to explain it ><

Ya I think I'll go for pre built instead especially for someone like me who doesn't know a **** about computer hardware stuffs..

Thank you for taking time to read and respond to my long post still! :D

Hello thank you for taking time to read and reply to my long post xD.

You mentioned about dual pc streaming and I've read and researched on that and I think for a casual streamer who just likes to hang out with her friends i don't think I need that.. haaha not a professional streamer anyway but maybe in the future if I really wish to go further in it I may consider getting a dedicated streaming pc for the best results using a capture card.

Will also take note on the placement of the pc and the mic too cause I've heard the pc went crazy on some streamers stream and its definitely not something nice at all for the viewers :p

And yes I will take note to look out for ssd' s and will likely go for nvidia if theres any prebuilts that comes with it.

As for connection ill mostly like get my cables pulled since I've read everywhere that wifi streaming can be done but it's not going to be as smooth as cabled connection.

So yea! Thank you for your kind tips ! Really appreciate it :D

Bling = looks / RGB lights

Some people like it. coz it looks cool
Some people don't

The SSD is there for a reason coz people are impatient. They don't want to wait for the loading circle when watching youtube

144hz = stay away unless you really need/ want it. coz it also matters on the backend

Budget wise, you also need to decide how much you want to spend?

2k? 5k? 10k?

Single System vs Multi System
Single Monitor vs Multi Monitor

Hello ~~thanks for taking time to read and reply :)

I think I may just go for pre built since ya.. I'm just so bad at IT stuffs and even tho I tried to research online but most of the times I don't really understand, im better at home econ stuff lolol xD

I think I will just be casually streaming after work for maybe a maximum of 3 hrs depends on how long i game xD .
Not gonna be professional and all cause ya I have a full time job ~~it's all for leisure and bonding with friends in the game that I'm currently playing ~~

As for quality i will want my streams to be at least be comfortable and smooth for viewers..

Haaha ya pubg too so I will be looking out for a pre built with nvidia~~ ☆

I have done (and still am doing) gameplay streams on a 54mbps 802.11g usd wifi stick using OBS in Linux with its subpar kernel drivers. It can be done.

But just to be clear, I was streaming only a small, resized browser window, and not the whole damn screen.

Off-topic: anyone up for some Kancolle?

o_O you reply so fast ! Thank you !

So that is what bling means .. I mean I don't really mind how my pc gonna look so long as it's working properly up to my expectations xD never judge a book by its cover yea? :p

So stay away from 144hz. Ok I'll take note of that. So any monitors that you can recommend ?

5 -7k mainly
Will be a single system multi monitor

Intel Core i5 8400 + Nvidia GeForce GTX1070 would be a good starting point for the initial draft spec then

*assuming 1920x1080, 60fps is the target

In this case, ryzen r5 1600 or any other r7 makes more sense. Streaming actually needs the threads. Can consider i7 8700 too.
