Heading to shizouka in mid novemeber, will need to check in on the 14th and check out on the 18th for an event.

OUTBOUND - 13 November 2013
07:00 SIN Singapore Changi United UA804
14:50 NRT Tokyo Narita 6h 50
RETURN - 19 November 2013
17:35 NRT Tokyo Narita United UA803
00:20 (+1) SIN Singapore Changi 7h 45

^ this is the cheapest option im able to find, ard $580 :o

plan to reach tokyo on the 13th and do some sightseeing, staying 1 night and taking the train to shizouka on the morning of 14th.

after checking out on 18th, will be heading back to tokyo and hopefully visit disneyland and staying another night before heading back home on the 19th.

so the questions is how long does the cheapest train takes from tokyo to shizouka ?

and would i have time to spend in tokyo?

It isn't too expensive nor too long via Shinkansen

"Cheapest train from Tokyo to Shizuoka"
Well, the cheapest train would probably be taking the regular JR Tokaido line trains from Tokyo to Shizuoka (with a train transfer at Atami).
It takes about 115mins from Tokyo to Atami, and then additional 74mins from Atami to Shizuoka. Total cost for 1 way is 3260yen.

In comparison, taking Shinkansen would take about 65mins (for Hikari Shinkansens) or 88mins (for Kodama Shinkansens). But the cost would be 5670yen for 1 way journey on unreserved seat.

Use Hyperdia website to search for trains for your journey. Type "Tokyo" in the "From" field, and "Shizuoka" to the "To" field.

To get search results of only regular trains, only check in the checkboxes for "Ordinary Train" and "Japan Railway (JR)" in the search parameters section at the bottom of the search results page.

Or you might want to consider bus?æ*±äº¬ é*™å²¡ 高速ãƒ*スã*®æœ€å®‰å€¤æƒ…å*±ã*¨æ™‚刻表 l 高速ãƒ*ス比較ガイド

Google is your best friend.

Shizuoka travel guide - Wikitravel

The cheapest train takes 3.25 hours (3260 yen), while the Kodama bullet train takes 90minutes (4500 yen) and the faster Hikari (1 hour, probably in the range of 6000 yen). And fastest Nozomi doesn't stop at Shizuoka.

My opinion is that since you may be rushing for time, just take Hikari. Provided you think it is worth spending SGD20+ more for 30min time saving.

Edit to add: ah Sam beat me to it...

We are peaceful people.

Jokes aside, U mean flight right? The timing coming back is not bad. Essentially you have half a day to go around Tokyo.

is it more worthwhile to get the JR rail pass ?

since i'll need to take the narita express to tokyo before taking another the kodama to shizouka. On the 18th i'll be heading back to tokyo and will be heading to disney sea as well as travelling within tokyo

unlikely to be worth it unless u are making long trips using shinkansen and limited express trains. coz narita to shizuoka is 8890yen using narita express and shinkansen. round trip still not worth the 28300yen JR pass. trips to disneysea and within tokyo are relatively cheap.

u can use hyperdia to check the train fares and compute whether the pass is worth it:
Hyperdia | Timetable and Route Search in Japan.

I don't see how you will be able to fit Disneyland in your itinerary when you don't have a full day in tokyo.

2 way from narita airport to SZK is around 200, im guessing traveling within tokyo would only require another 100 or less

thanks !

travelling within tokyo is relatively very cheap, compare to shinkansen. u will likely spend less than $10 on transport a day in tokyo. for example, trips on yamanote line is between 130-190yen. yamanote line will get u to most places within tokyo
