Hi guys, i'm a newbie in laptop here. Looking to purchase a laptop for my gf for her work. Hope to achieve the requirement as stated below:

- Mainly uses for work (excel etc) , internet surfing and movie watching.
- Light weight (if possible)
- Nice exterior (she like purple/pink like Sony Vaios but I see the website its like over 2.5k for one laptop)

Shes not a tech enthusiast, for me i'm into PC hardware but no knowledge in laptop also. Hope to have SSD included (if budget allows) , and decent amount of storage space (>320gb). Processor I not sure about the trend for laptop. GPU I guess for her using integrated is sufficient. Exterior is secondary, primary concern is price and value worthy. Budget wise hoping to look for one below 1.5k , or even much lesser (<1k?) if possible. Not brand conscious, any constructive feedback are welcome and deeply appreciated !
If possible maybe can share where to get it too =:p

Hi there!

I'm selling my wife's 11" Macbook air.
It is configured with the biggest possible 500GB Solid State Drive (up to 600 MB/s) by comparison, my Samsung SSD achieves 250MB/s
It is lightweight - 1.08 kg
As far as GPUs go, the integrated HD 5000 can run Civ 5 and drive a 2560 x1440 external monitor.
CPU is an Intel-i7 non of that slow as molasses atom thingy.
It also comes with 19 month of Applecare
Externally, there is no ding, scratch or stain.
It CAN run windows if you really must.
My wife runs Microsoft office 365 from this machine (mainly excel spreadsheet work), she watches her korean drama in HD on it will play the occasional Civ 5.
Asking price is only $1498.00

Unfortunately... it is silver in colour.

How much is that ?

Its about 300+,comes in blue and Pink/purple
I believe most courts/challenger carries them
Also comes with office 365(probably 1year)
Whether is it smooth for surfing idk..you can try out the demo set available
But the storage space is very little, you have to find an alternative

ASUS UX305, at $999, 128GB SSD with 4 GB RAM. Can buy an external 500 GB HDD (less than $100). It's fast, sleek, light, but only in black or white. Seems to suit what you want.

hp stream 11 or stream 13

pink & blue colours

$309 or $349

try out at usual shops before buying [best denki, challenger, harvey norman, etc]
note: storage only 32gb [even lesser after installing Office], buying a SD is almost a must

if buying, can buy from hp direct online, free delivery

just spotted a version with sim card at challenger, $399

I got this laptop. Really light and battery life is great. However note that the processor is very weak.

On chrome cannot play 720p60 videos, cpu usage will rise to 100%. Cannot play the new h265 video codec also, cpu lag.

But other than that is very good. SSD benchmarks appear to be better than my 850evo. 4gb of ram is sufficient though i had hoped for 8gb. As it is passively cooled the region above button f7 can get very hot.

I concur with the recommendation. Core M handles light workload quite well.

If you want a bit more juice, u can go for the UX303LN/LAs.

My rule of thumb is to do homework before buying, you can buy anywhere as long as you are armed with some knowledge before hand. Otherwise most shops will not be as honest as you would like them to be.

Challenger would be your best bet.

Good luck!
