Hi Mates,

My current AirPort Extreme is failing intermittently. Hence would be needing a new WiFi Router. Am currently on SingTel with a Internet only plan as family do not watch TV.

Wanted to get Google WiFi to replace my AirPort Extreme and enhance coverage at the same time. But realised it doesn't play nice with SingTel. As my contract with them are expiring in Dec, which might make me switch to another ISP, what options do I have?

Tried to ask the sales people at a nearby challenger on what mesh routers but they don't seem knowledgeable enough.

Need some help here on should I still go with Google WiFi? Anyway to force it to play nice with my Singtel Modem?

Other brand I heard is Netgear Orbi, if I buy that, I can get rid of my modem?

Appreciate your help here!

Do you really need a mesh for your premise.
Read more info regarding mesh vs router before making your decision.

Sometimes routers can do the job better as nowadays many are selling brand new sets with great discount.

The main point in having a good network coverage depend on your layout and ethernet cabling with data points in order to achieve high speed connection.

Having either ONT or ONR would depend on your needs and each has its own advantages and disadvantage.

So far all the Orbi/Singtel Vlan thread in HWZ seems to be a hit & miss, not sure whether it works. If you really want a mesh system, can consider Asus routers ( which does work on Singtel ) with their AiMesh feature.

Your network is operating on ont or onr?

I would assume you're using ont by the way you write.. so assuming it's ont and you wish to remove the router, you need a mesh system which supports vlan. Orbi does support vlan as you can see from your research.

Mesh systems mostly support routing function and mostly support bridged mode too. If you want to remove the router completely, your choice of mesh will be limited. If you don't mind router in place and let the mesh handles your Wi-Fi, then you are not limited to any mesh system.

So let's say you want to remove the router and you use the routing feature of a particular mesh system, the routing feature will be really basic and you're limited with the number of LAN ports too.

Yes I need Mesh as I'm using a AirPort Extreme and Express in Network Extending Mode due to insufficient coverage.

Found this article https://kb.netgear.com/000038854/Ho...or-my-Orbi-WiFi-System-if-I-live-in-Singapore on Orbi with Singtel.

So with this, do I remove the Modem and connect Orbi straight to the ONT?

Thanks for the advice!

Thank you for the info.

I'm confused. From Netgear's knowledge base, after doing the configuration, do I just remove the SingTel Router or retain it?

Also, if I'm ok to retain SingTel's router, will i have a double NAT issue if I were to use Google WiFi or any of those not so complicated mesh systems.

Thx for the advice

You can remove the Singtel router if u have gotten vlan set up.

Double natwill always be there unless you're using a mesh system with ap/bridged mode..

Just installed the Orbi RBK 40. Works pretty well, as far as I can see, there isn't any double nat issue.

Can't get it to work when I remove the SingTel AC1900 tho. Not sure if I did the setup correctly. Its now set in "Router Mode"...

Have to say signal is really strong, covered all the blindspots in my place
