I have two SAS hard disk. ST9500620SS.
I have an LSI SAS9220-8 8 port SAS controller.
On power up, with the entry of "C" , and a yes, it goes to the controller card BIOS and need some set up.
I don't know how to configure this.
Anyone with experience with this, please help.
I will check back daily for any suggestion.

The system is an ASUS X99, I7-5930, Win 10 running on an Sumsung 128G SSD. I want to use the SAS hard disk as a clone to backup the C drive, the SSD. I do not want to RAID the SAS drive but as two independent disk. I use the Seagate Diskwizard (a Seagate version of Aconis) to clone.

I use to be very good at computer hardware but I guess, the technology ran faster than me. I am 67 years old and a retired engineer.
I know that it is easier to use normal SATA disk for my backup, in fact I did, with two ST1000DM010. However, the challenge is to try the SAS disk.

I am assuming that the card is using MegaRAID firmware which does not allow passthru. You will need to crossflash the card to IT mode firmware in order to see the disks directly.

I just manage to set it up.
There is a setting to disable virtual drive, hence no raid,
Next setup the disk as a JBOD
JBOD is Just a Bunch of Disk.
Then the controller card is simply as any SATA controller card except it is now connected to SAS disk
The same controller card can also access SATA disk where else SATA controller cannot access SAS
The whole exercise, though expensive has the same performance as a SATA disk.
Controller card cost SG$100
Cable for the controller card SG$50
the disk ST9500620SS (2 of them) cost SG$150 each plus freight SG$80

Seems not worth it because any Seagate 500G or 1T disk with similar performance would cost only SG$70 each.

Anyway, it was fun doing it.
