User using Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S with android 2.3.4

when phone was bought, user do not have a gmail acct.

a XXX gmail acct was used and login into store, download some apps, and thats about all, no contacts or data where sync between xxx gmail account and device

then user created user own gmail acct, and then login into device, and now user acct is pioroty acct in device as well as store acct. nothing was sync between user acct and device as well, but of course, some new apps were downloaded with user gmail acct.

to avoid confusion, user wants to delete xxx gmail acct, but the message received was
REMOVING THE ACCOUNT WILL DELETE ALL OF ITS MESSAGES, CONTACTS AND OTHER DATA FROM THE DEVICE. CONTINUE?

user didn't proceed from there, what are the messages, contacts and other data does device means?
messages as in sms? whatsapp, or gmail messages?
contacts?, as there's no sync with either account, will it remove the existing contacts?
other data, what are these data?

1)Only sms since u mentioned that nothing else was done except for downloading of some apps . Can do a backup easily by downloading those sms backup app in google play

2)Yes it will remove the existing contacts . Sync them to your phone and then sync back to the new gmail account

3)Those downloaded apps data(settings/saved game) . Can backup using titanium backup(requires root access) which i don't think its necessary in your case

sounds complicated, but can try, most important, back up first
