Hi, I have a friend looking to get a new setup. Budget is below 1k.

He is looking to play Dota 2, D3 for now. He will be using his GTX 550. Brands unknown.

Pls help to recommend a new setup that allows for future expansion. I hope can include Haswell i5 (not looking to OC). SSD not really a must.

Thank you. If any other information is required pls let me know i will try to get back asap. :s12:

Bringing anything over from old rig other than his gfx?

Need peripheral? Need OS?

Edit: Need over-clocking?

1) Will bring over the graphics card only. System owner last bought com in 2007.

2) no need Monitor/KB/Mouse/OS.

3) won't be doing OC.

btw the primary target is really looking at Haswell i5, with 8gb ram. Thanks.

if there is any chance to get a good graphics card while we're at it, do recommend also. But my opinion is that he could stick with his GTX550 first. only upgrade his gfx card if he finds the need to fulfill other games in future.

Mobo+CPU: Asus H87m-e + i5-4570
Mem: G Skill RipjawX 1600 CL9 8Gb (2x4GB)
HDD: WD Caviar Blue (1TB)
PSU: Seasonic M12II 520W
Casing: Your friend's preference.

On hp, unable to check price but should be around $700+ Excluding casing.

Can always negotiate for lower price at SLS.

Recommended rig also can't do SLI/crossfire. Take note please. :p

Can upgrade to better gfx and/or SSD in future.

Sorry. Forgot to include DVD rom. Just buy a cheap one will do since we normally don't use much of it these days. Buy a $20+ is enough.

CPU & Mobo: i5-4570 & Asrock B85M Pro4 @ $362
Ram: Kingston 1600mhz value ram 8GB @ $82
ODD: Samsung DVD RW @ $22
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 1TB @ $80
SSD: Plextor M5S 128GB @ $139
Case: Sharkoon T28/Asgard Midgard II @ $87
PSU: Seasonic S12 520W @ $78

Total: $850
Buy and build at Tradepac.

IMO, no need to go for ram kit since your friend doesn't intend to overclock. Value ram is cheaper and performs the same.
