I updated my Nvidia driver to the latest update for my MSI GTX 560 TI last week. It started to have problems like BSOD , total black screen, and so i did a system restore. After the restore, it seems like windows doesn't recognize my GTX 560 TI anymore. I went to check under device manager, it's written " Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems" Error Code : 43 . Even after restarting the cpu, i can't change the resolution to 1920 x 1080 anymore, the best i could was 1280 x 720. After 1 hr or so , small checkered boxs in red with weird lines start to come out on my screen. It looked like a graphics card hardware issue to me. I have heard that PSU might also be a factor for this problem.

My build is shown below.

Gigabyte Z68-UD3
Intel i5 2500k (no overclocking)
MSI GTX 560 TI Hawk
Corsair H80 water cooling
3 x 4gb 1333 gskill value ram
6 5 usb ports used
Razer blackwidow ultimate
Razer Deathadder
FSP gold 650W modular.

Could the psu be the problem? As in not supplying enough power? This rig was assembled 2.5 years ago.

Thanks!

Are the fans spinning? If not, your card might have died. If the fans are spinning, uninstall the nvidia driver with driver sweeper (go google). Shut down and remove your card. Boot up with your cpu's intel hd 3000 graphics through your mobo to the monitor. After you have confirmed that you have ZERO traces of nvidia driver in your com, install back your gpu to either the 1st/2nd pcie slot and now boot with your gpu instead. What do you see?

Did u remember to connect separate pci-e power cable(s) to your graphics card? think they have 4pin or 6pin connectors.

Unless your PSU is faulty, which seems unlikely from the info you gave, there must be something wrong with the gtx 560. I once had a 8800gt that spoilt after I updated the drivers. I suspect it was already on it's way out and the drivers helped it... somehow...

Does your gtx 560 still have warranty?

I removed the card and is able to use back my 1920 x 1090 settings. Thanks! Yes there are no traces of nvidia drivers anymore and when i plug it back to another slot, the graphics is distorted, with the colours fading and only in 640 x 480 resolution. Is my GPU faulty? If i get gtx 760 to replace it, will my 650w power supply be sufficient?

I am not sure whether the Warranty is still available. I assembled it at PC Themes 2.5 years back.

This is what I want to see! Lol. You gpu should be fine. But now there is one problem. Do you know the previous driver version number which makes your system stable? The one you have been long using before you went updating. If you cannot really remember, it is time to put in the cd that comes with your gpu. Install EVERYTHING (do not click custom) and let us know the result. Also uncheck any auto update boxes if any.

On a side note, I would want to highlight that if you system is STABLE, try not to touch things like flashing the mobo bios, updating ssd's firmware and doing driver updates. When these updates are being made available online, I know that they will state things like bug fixes, system improvement so on and so forth. But do understand that sometimes, there might be a compatibility issue with your current system to the update(s) so much so that it that will cause issues ranging from minor problems (similar to what you have faced) to even 'bricking' the entire piece of hardware, rendering them totally useless. For users who usually go for these updates, more often than not, they will make a backup copy of the current firmware/drivers just in case when things go wrong. Sometimes even when I do those updates (with the backup done), my heart and lungs would still sink to the ground for a few minutes.

Cheers.

I encountered a few 560 issues lately with recent drivers, the only way is to remove the old drivers, and install the drivers that comes with the card, namely the driver in the CD provided.

Otherwise, well 560 is an aged card, probably the time is almost up.

You can always bring the vga card over to our service center to check. :)
If its still in warranty, can have it sent back for rma too.
