Need some feedback on entry level SSDs

hi. i am looking at getting 2 ssd to run raid for work. i was looking at getting 2 raptors but looking at the price, noise and heat, so thinking of trying out using 2 ssd instead.

basically looking at the cheaper ones because speed is not a big issue to me at ssd level. i need something that will not up the lorry suddenly or after 1yr.

i was looking at the sandisk ultra plus which seems to have a reasonable price as well as entry level samsung as well as the samsung 840, plextor m5s.

heard some bad stuff abt corsair ssd lately so is abit worried about getting a corsair ssd. has the issues been all resolved or still hanging there?

You can check out Crucial M4 if you can still find them. Prices of SSD has gone up over the past weeks.

Anyway, I feel Corsair is a reliable brand, they do have issues with their older Sandforce 2 based SSDs, but that affect pretty much every manufacturers out there that uses Sandforce 2 controller for their SSD, less Intel since they took their time to test and create their own firmware. I am no fan of OCZ tho.

My take, best place to check how reliable/ problematic, go to the manufacturer's forum and see what are the recent issues. Otherwise, places like Newegg or Amazon will provide user reviews, which is usually a good indication.

For your info, Intel 7 series boards officially supports TRIM in Raid 0 arrays.

Intel is usually fairly reliable. Crucial M4 series is an old workhorse that isn't the fastest now but also fairly reliable.

The last gen Samsung 830 (MLC nand) garnered a lot of popularity for it's performance. It's successor 840 Pro (MLC nand) also has very good performance but probably out of your budget. The entry level 840 however uses TLC nand so I'm not sure if that factors in your consideration with regards to lifespan.
