I hv a asus laptop less than 1 yr old suddenly started making "device connect/disconnect" notification sounds. This is accompanied by an internet cut.

the sound is the same sound as when plugging in and out a usb device from windows 8.1

for example, i download a 100mb file
it will download fine until (for example) 30mb suddenly the download rate go to 0mbps... then a few seconds later the "plugin/out" sound will play, then the download will resume.

The "plugin/out" sound happens on average every 5 - 10 min but is erratic. Once it happened 10 consecutive times.

It is annoying and more imptly disrupts my work online.

Called asus, the CSR say asus driver dont work well with win8.1. ask me to format everything. Anyone experienced this?

i hv updated to latest driver, still same problem. seems ridiculous explanation that the drivers are not compatible.

Windows 8.1 is not for all Asus laptop even I encounter
similar issue.
Reason is simple, though there's Asus driver for Windows 8.1
but it's still not stable.
May take a long period before Asus can release a stable driver
release for Windows 8.1.
FYI Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 seems like two different OS
hence require different drivers.
Recommend drivers for Windows 8.1 you have to download from
Asus and choose Windows 8.1 for operating system.
Not like Windows 7 -> Windows 7 SP1 for what I know.
TS, since Windows 8.1 is giving you problems you will have to revert to 8.
Hope this helps.

Complaint about asus customer service

i juz got back my laptop from the service center. took 1 week which i dont mind but the way they handle things is horrendous

ytd they called while i was in a meeting and couldnt ans, when i called back the service center was closed.

so they called again today in the morning but again i was at a meeting. so i called them back close to an hr later and the number they used to dial me cannot directly connect to the service center hotline. instead they read out the asus hotline expecting me to write it down. Fine. i will live with that. maybe they're not that advanced to have call forwarding

so i called their hotline and got through to a customer service rep who cant understand clearly english i had to speak word by word. when reading back my phone number to confirm i suddenly had 2 extra digits shoved inside so i had a 10 digit phone number (and no, its not +65).

she spent 5 min to check on the status of my repair and came back saying that my laptop was not ready becos a part had not arrived. she said that i received the 2 phone calls to inform me that the laptop needed more time to repair. this one i give it to her although i feel its not logical

2hr later i get a sms saying ready for collection. pek chek call them again. guy pick up. I IMMEDIATELY ASKED FOR THEIR CUSTOMER SUPPORT FRONT DESK NUMBER. he say cannot give. so he check my issue check another 5 min (starhub phone bill not cheap yknow). come back say part has not arrive. i was wtf how i get the sms. he ask me to read out the sms like i lying. then 5s later he flip side say oh yesyes ready for collection.

so now i pek chek even more. if the 1st cs rep told me ready for collection i would have a way of getting the paper receipt to me but bcos she said not ready so i dont hv it. so i ask the 2nd guy whether i can collect without receipt anot... wait another 3 min. he come back say can.

so i went to customer service center on a thursday at 3.30pm, 30ppl waiting. wow. just wow. quality "up there".

then the queue for collection of laptop is diff from sending for repair. got abt 10 ppl waiting with queue number. INSTEAD OF FOLLOWING QUEUE NUMBER THEY SAY ALL COME TO SUBMIT RECEIPT. my position was pushed to the LAST juz becos i dont hv my receipt.

if i had been informed of such info, given the PROPER information in a TIMELY manner i wouldnt hv such a **** day. asus seriously wasted 2 hr of my life... anyone know of a better brand?

i complained to my friend who lives near asus/lenovo service center near tai seng. he bought lenovo. one day his laptop had problem. sent for servicing come back missing a part. the manager personally came down to his house to pass him. believe it or not up to u but id say he deserves a medal for customer excellence

The staff there maybe can't find anything to explain to you
that it is actually the image having issue hence
they say hard disk.
Just think it as reformat but not replacing the hard disk.
