New Desktop Recommendation

Hoping to get some recommendations from the pros here.

Looking to build a new rig for a friend, have an existing brand new Galax GTX 1060 EXOC White 6gb, looking to reuse if possible

Budget ~$1000 excluding monitor, peripherals, GPU.
Usage: 1080p light gaming, rarely AAA, web surfing, youtube, microsoft work.

Looking for an small case ?mATX mobo/case. Or even itx if possible.
Likely need a wifi mobo.
Would Ryzen 2600 be suitable? No intentions to OC or WC. Prefer fan cooled

my own rig seems to be doing ok on 8gb ram, i understand the mhz used to be capped for my intel, ryzen dosent do that ya?

Would you guys recommend SSD or NVME? Not sure if can see the realworld diff between them.

Nil theme, but existing GPU is white (black case is fine). RGB / case window not important.

Value for money is the most important haha
No need for future proofing

my own rig last done 2016 at side bar, have not rly been reading since then.

found the Fractal Design Define R5 a joy to build in, but way too big for simple user.

You can just get 2600x, there should be clearing stocks sales so you could potentially find very cheap ones. You can buy off the internet since it has international warranty.

For mb, I would say B450 Tomahawk Max, "Max" basically has more bios space which is important for Ryzen 3, incase you ever want to upgrade to it.

Ram wise I would say 16gb, that's basically the current gaming standard. For Ryzen, minimum 3200mhz cl16. Brands don't matter much unless you into oc beyond the given spec.

SSD and Nvme value are close, if you choose to buy from oversea. Locally, nvme is marked up high. Beside the speed difference, I would say less cable management since nvme is just slotting a card in. The most value for money nvme now is Phison E12 based nvme. Those nvme usually value around $160

PSU I would recommend EVGA G+ 650w or equivalent. It has 10 years warranty and is modular.

Casing and fans, that one really personal ah. I know a lot of people like to recommend fractal design meshify c

thanks thanks, previously (2016) was recco to buy locally in case any pin issue with mobo. was looking at pcthemes price list, will take a look online.

would ryzen 3600 series be overkill with a gtx 1060?
i rmb intel used to limit ram unless you bought a K chip. any such thing with ryzen?

looking for a wifi mobo as well.

likely will be used till tech is obsolete haha. no nd to futureproof

Rough build below, open to input. Prices below based on PCthemes for now unless otherwise stated.

AMD Ryzen 5 2600 +
MSI B450M Mortar @ $326 or B450M Mortar MAX @ $335 (9 dollar difference from above)?
Main difference a bigger BIOS chip and Ryzen 3000 support out of the box ya?

Should i jump the gun and get Ryzen 3600, or would it be bottlenecked by my GTX1060 6GB?

heard the CM Q300L runs alil hot? and only comes with 1 rear fan, will likely have to top up $10-20 for another front intake case fan..

open to other mATX case suggestions. Fractal design mesify c mini looks good but pricey..

MONITOR: Friend prefers 24", in any case its likely FHD only with the galax GTX1060 gpu. Less FPS/fast paced games, so im guessing IPS? (Prices from recent Tech Show Nov19)

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 @ Amazon - $280 - Difference between local pricing is small, like $20 difference.

CPU international warranty, if spoil, just drop it the AMD designated location in singapore. The 3600 will bottleneck 1060 but you can also think of it as future investment, if you ever want to upgrade 1060 in the future.

Mobo: Base on this spreadsheet. There are a lot of capable mobo for Ryzen 3000. For maximizing budge purpose, Asrock has the best best budget mobo for Ryzen 3000 and next up is MSI. For budget will be Asrock B450M Pro4 while slightly premium will be MSI Tomahawk or Mortar Max. Locally the price is $130 or $180.

Ram: 2*8gb 3200mhz CL16 @ Amazon - $100 - Difference between local pricing is small, like $30 difference. Ryzen is heavily impact by ram performance, you cannot skim on this.

PSU: It has tier list, basically how good the product is for what type of computer. Here and here. The brand is one thing, model is also another thing. You can get EVGA G+ from Tradepac but if you want to get everything from same store, you can also go for Corsair RM 2019, note is 2019, only 2019 has 10 years warranty. 10 years warranty means you can just keep reuse the PSU for your next rig and next next rig to come.

SSD: For that price I rather top up abit and get SX8200 Pro. Also, SSD also got its own buying chart which you can find here. If you are a risk taker, you can also buy from amazon "Teamgroup Nvme MP34" which is Phison E12 based nvme aka best value in market. Nvme SSD has rather high failure rate, around 5-10%, while amazon got excellent return policy but the problem lie after that return period, servicing will be a pain and subject to different brands. Teamgroup is Taiwan company, I believe better than USA company.

Monitor: If can wait a few months then wait ba. There will be more brands releasing IPS 24" 144hz monitor. Hopefully the local distributor will bring these brands into the SG market.

$1000 budget is too much. $700 is sufficient

2600 is enough. to save more can even get 1600 not much diff. even 1400 wont bottleneck gpu

nvme get kingston a2000.

for value for money get bx500 ssd.

1080 light gaming can get rx 580 and maybe ryzen 5 1600 or 1500.. should fit the bill very nice. 2 years later can upgrade..

SSD: will prolly swap out the SSD to Crucial MX500. haha not a risk taker + building for friend.

PSU: any good modular one to recomend? or at least semi modular?
the evga one dosent seem modular.
what happened to superflower? had a good price point last time for a full modular

Im guessing a 550W would be sufficient? no plans for xfire/ sli



price of ryzen 2600x really stark difference between amazon us and sg website

EVGA G+ is modular.
550w is fine but you gotta find the right brand and model, with reasonable value.
I think it is hard to find 550w that come with 10 years warranty at a good price. At least I don't notice any.

am using the tecware nexus m case, it's a pretty good looking case. nothing spectacular but cheap and good. can't comment much on airflow since i dont care too much about it but the 3 included fans are definitely welcome, with additional mounting points around the case. the fans arent the quietest, but should do the job just fine. cable management is ok, there's ample space for cables behind the mb mount and theres access for ur 6/8pin cables towards the opposite end of the psu shroud. io wise is also ok, hp jack, 2x usb2 and 1x usb3. drive mounting also not bad, can mount beside psu or beside mb.

since ur fren doesn't really care too much about looks, it should be suitable and can save some money.
