Hi all -

I'm looking to get a new gaming PC from SLS, and it would be great if I could get some input on what I should be aiming for. Realistically I'm willing to spend about 3K all-in. I've been using a gaming laptop for quite a few years now so no monitor here - just a mouse.

Things I'd like included:
- a new OS
- SSD for OS
- 2TB HDD
- Reasonably large monitor (I'm not sure what's possible here so please recommend!)

Would also be great if you guys could recommended a shop in SLS to build from. Thanks in advance!

CPU: MSI H81M-E35 + i5-4690 @ $352
RAM: G.Skill RipJaws-X 1600MHz CL8 4GBx2 kit @ $99

GPU: Palit have an ongoing promotion at Lazada. Default will be $703.80, if you have OCBC Frank card and use shopback it can go as low as $626

SSD: Samsung EVO 850 250GB @ $175
HDD: WD Red 2TB @ $126
PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 550W @ $129
OS: Windows 8.1 OEM key from g2a.com @ $35
Optical Drive: Samsung DVD-R/W OEM @ $21
Casing: Your own liking, give you around $150 budget @ $150

For the above items, buy at tradepac unless otherwise stated on the individual items. This is your core hardwares, cost: $1713. Ask for discounts.

You should be left with a good $1300 from your budget. I'm no monitor expert but that's more than enough to hoot any good 27 inch monitor and a keyboard since you don't have one.

For a start you can look at Samsung S32D850T which one of our experts here "Roy" really likes, but can be quite pricey at $1K.

You can also look at Dell P2715Q, a gorgeous 4K monitor. Your rig won't be suitable to game at 4K but then you can always choose a lower resolution like 2K for gaming but enjoy all else at 4K display resolution. This monitor is about $800ish.

The above 2 monitors aren't common monitors that SLS shops would carry or keeps stock, so maybe you need to hunt abit.

There are also other cheaper options but usually lousier panels or 1080p at SLS.

Dell U2414H @ 339

I have no idea how large you would like but this is a good monitor for a start. Very slim bezels, nice IPS screen for better viewing angles. 24 is a reasonable size for most people unless you would like a 27 inch or 32 inch.

Windows 8 Home Premium 64 bit @ 135

i5-4460 + MSI H81M-E35 @ 308
Strontium 2x8GB DDR3-1600 @ 148
WD Green 2TB @ 112
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB @175
Samsung DVD Drive @21
Palit GTX980Ti @1035
Seasonic M12-II 620W @115
Fractal Core 1500 @ 89

Total of 2477

if you have 3k budget, it is very easy, go for pure performance with lousy case or balance with nice casing.

SLS got tons of shops and able to get the best bang for buck if you scrutinise every parts.
