Hi Folks,

recently PC unable to boot up pretty often and blue screen of death. I`m guessing lifespan of my HDD is about up.

My question is, do I need to re-purchase a windows if i were to get a new HDD?

Thanks for help.

You don't need to re-purchase Windows OS.
I think you better get SSD for your OS instead of using HDD.
It is faster and more lasting.
The lifespan of SSD is longer than HDD.

Thanks for your replies.

I don`t have the original windows CD and prolly lost the activation key.

Is there a way to retrieve it? and how can I do it?

I`m not sure which version is it. I`m guessing retail version.

If you lost the original windows CD and product key no., there is no way for you to retrieve it.

Wrong, magical jellybean can retrieve the COA. You can extract the COA from another computer if you know how to do it.

Not rocket science to retrieve COA from HDD with installed Windows from another computer, let alone a bootable HDD on the native system.
