Hi!

My laptop has been dying on me by switch it off automatically...

I'm thinking of either getting a new laptop or new cpu as i'm a NSF who only uses his computer on weekends? My usage are mainly just serving the net only and sometimes some word/ppt/excel usage.
I need to be able to plug on to 2 Monitor to be used as an extension.

Please give me a suggestion if i should buy a new laptop or a CPU. If it's a CPU, what's the buildup for it?

Budget -> Less than $600 including OS.

Thanks

Anyone can help?

Hmm better ask nippon, but if u getting a CPU for less than 600 plus OS.

Hmm my take based on Tradepac pricing.

Win 7 Home ed. $110

Bundle* Intel G2010 + Asrock B75M -DGS $138
(Free 4GB value ram)

Bundle* Xigmatek Asgard XP + CM Extreme 475w $95

WD 500gb Green $65

DVD write/combo -$22

Powercolour HD7750 4gb $150 (Since u need to power up 2 monitor)
Or
Powercolour HD 7770 1gb $157

Assembly fee $10

Total: $590. (Try to ask for cash discount on top of this)

Always watch them doing ur assembly, make sure they handle ur cable management properly. Most importantly they don't take away all your extra cables.

Is portability important to you?

For desktop, here is my recommendation

CPU & Mobo: G2020 & Gigabyte B75M-D3V @ $160
Free 4GB ram
ODD: Samsung DVD RW @ $22
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 500GB @ ~$60
Case: Sharkoon MS140 @ $52
PSU: FSP Raider 450W @ $68*
OS: Windows 7 Home 64bit OEM @ $110

Total: $472
Buy and build at Tradepac. Those with * are bundle prices.

Some things to take note when dealing with Tradepac:

  • Be firm with your decision when buying from Tradepac. Don't be swayed by their sales assistant to upgrade and buy more expensive components which you don't require.
  • Check all the components you plan to purchase are correct before you make payment.
  • Stay at the shop and supervise them as they assemble your rig and make sure they return all spare chassis parts. You might want to take note that Tradepac cable management skills may not be up to your satisfactory level.
