Hello Forum!

Recently I purchase the Plextor M5S SSD to replace my 1TB samsung HDD, I managed to install windows 7 into it but now I got problem booting into it. My motherboard (P55A-G55 MSI) can detect it properly but every time it will not boot automatically into the new SSD. I've checked the boot order and my SSD is the 1st boot order.

The problem is it will boot to the 3rd option which is a 2.2TB infinity program then it will boot into the hard disk correctly. But I've checked and my SDD is not listed as a boot order after this 2.2TB infinity program. And sometimes it will ask which OS to boot from as well. Im not sure whats happening.

Any help?

Why not set the SSD as the only boot option and disabled the rest?

TS, when you install OS on the SSD, you disconnect all other hard disks?

Obviously, you did not disconnect all other HDDs when installing Windows 7 "on' the SSD.

Failure to remove other bootable HDDs/SSDs already install with Windows will lead to such known problem. During the initial stage of Windows7 installation, if the installation routine detected an existing active partition, it WILL NOT create another active/bootable/system partition on the SSD even though you specific the location of the Windows to reside in the SSD. I will still use the boot sector on the existing active/system partition on the HDD. The moment you remove or disconnect the HDD, the SSD with %system% will fail to boot due to missing of the boot sector present only on the HDD and not the SSD.

All you need now is to reinstall the Windows with only the SSD connected and no other SSD/HDD with Windows. After you completed the installation and boot up with the SSD, you can then shutdown the system and reconnect other SSD/HDD to the system.

When I was installing my Windows 7 to my SSD yesterday, what I did was to leave my HDD plugged in until the stage where they ask me to choose which drive to install the OS into, from there, I selected disk option(or advanced option or smth like that) and formatted the HDD, after that, I plugged the SATA cable from the HDD out, leaving only my SSD connected and refreshed the list of drives available(it may take several refreshes idk why) and the HDD will be gone, leaving only the SSD on the list, from there, I installed my OS to my SSD without any problem. ONLY when I reached my desktop page then I connect my HDD back.

Im reinstalling the OS again. Im 100% sure, I disconnected my HDD while installing the OS into the SSD because I only got one sata cable. But nonetheless maybe there was some error during installation. I shall jus try reinstalling the OS again. Will update here if there is any improvement on the issue. Thanks all for the feedback, appreciate all the help.

I don't get the point or purpose for being so troublesome just to install Windows.

Whenever Windows installation detected an existing active/system partition on any of the connected drive, it won't place a new boot sector on the SSD even though you (wishfully) wanted the SSD to be bootable.

Formatting the HDD does not give you a bootable SSD no matter how hard you try. The installation routine already lock-on the HDD with the boot sector and promptly create a new boot sector on the HDD (with partition/partitions) again after the format completed. In the initial stage of installation, there isn't any partition on the SSD so your wishful bootable new SSD will never happen as long as any bootable HDD/SSD connected.

Erm i jus re-read your sentence. You removed the connection from your HDD while installing the OS into your SSD? No wonder gt corruption.

Best way is to remove both the SATA data and power cables from your HDD, and make sure your SSD is connected to the 1st SATA port of your Mobo. Check your manual for more details. Go to BIOS to double confirm.

After which, start to reinstall your OS.

I just wanted to take the chance to format my drive :(, but everything works leh, even without the HDD haha
