Hi! thanks for opening this thread :)

As mentioned above, I'm looking to build a Gaming PC for the first time!
Budget wise, its around 2k-ish, will be willing to increase it to 2.4 if necessary.
i want to game in 1440p, and wish to make my rig as silent and as cool(temperature wise, my hse gets kinda warm in the afternoons) as possible(within my budget).
i will also occasionally use it for video/photo editing

i feel that an i5 proccessor is kinda enough. Memory wise, probably a 250GB/500GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. MOBO wise, i know very little but probably something that i can add more ram in the future and with USB3.1, HDMI ports etc. I also wish to liquid cool my GPU and CPU.

Questions:
1) As for the PSUs, as they have different grades, ie platinum or gold, would determine the efficiency, would it be right to say the higher the efficiency, the cooler the com?

2)Would liquid coolers(for GPU and/or CPU) make my rig quieter?

3)Do i need a sound card?

4)Would having 2, heck even 3 monitors be necessary?

In short, i want to build an upgradable Gaming PC with video editing capabilities. Also it would help a lot if you guys can suggest a suitable monitor, keyboard and mouse as well:)

All suggestions are welcomed!

Side note: i would be bringing this rig to my hostel next year

Are you in a rush to build the rig? If not it might be a good idea to wait since Pascal and Polaris are coming :o

Nope, not in a rush at all, i just did some quick googling, Pascal and Polaris are graphic cards by Nividia and AMD respectively right? Would it make a huge difference as to my limited knowledge in this, new products gets released all the time :/
I'm so sorry if you are offended by this question haha

Better wait for new parts, cos current parts will be dirt cheap by then....

Newer parts as in Pascal and Polaris? when the newer parts are out should i get the newer ones or the older ones with the reduced price?? I would want to use this rig for as long as possible, so i'm guessing i should get the newer parts rights??:s22:

1. Higher efficiency means less heat and a cooler rig, though you probably won't notice the difference. The CPU and GPU are the two main sources of heat.

2. Liquid cooling does help to keep things cooler. All-in-one liquid cooling solutions are easier to use. Do note the risk of leakage.

3. Onboard sound is good enough, especially if you get a high-end motherboard with a decent audio solution.

4. This is a matter of personal preference.

thanks for the replies guys!

So... i have narrowed down to 4 options,

1)Build Rig without GPU and wait for Pascal/Polaris.

2)Build a Rig with a cheap GPU, upgrade when Pascal/Polaris is released

3)Build a Rig with a decent GPU, upgrade in a more distant future

4)Wait till Pascal/Polaris to be released before building my rig

Also as most tec gadgets has a diminishing return as the prices go up, should i get a mid tier GPU or just get a high end one so that it can be used for a longer time??

For your budget and 1440 gaming, I would suggest a high-end card.

U can build now and use gtx 970 should not need to upgrade in 3 years

For motherboard, any will do. U dont need to go high end for better sound, because sound blaster x-fi3 works on any realtek sound.

But if u want good realtek, then look out for ALC 888/889/892/ALC1150

I downgraded from 889 to 662 and can hear the difference in sound when using headphones
