Came across this old news...

https://sg.news.yahoo.com/is-this-singapore’s-future-mrt-network-.html

Is there going to be a North Shore Line in future? (connecting Woodlands/Sembawang with Punggol in the North East)

Currently, the planned Cross-Island Line will connect Punggol to Pasir Ris.

Yes, saw this before. Was wondering why there's no train connection directly from Pasir Ris to Woodlands. Then found this roadmap.

Question is what's the timeline? Does the number 15 mean it's the 15th to be built?

Also found this 2001 URA Concept Map, the route between Changi, Pasir Ris and Punggol will be taken care of by CIL.

The remaining Punggol - SEMBAWANG link still an unknown.

If CIL only built by 2030, North Shore Line maybe like 2040/50. :)

Sorry, what's CIL?

There's construction beside the containers in Punggol. I guess it's a road that links Punggol and Pasir Ris directly.

The Seletar west link will connect Punggol to Yishun. Now left Yishun to Sembawang.

Of course, now there's no train station at all along these routes

Do you think ridership level will justify the cost? If all north shore residents pay for the line on their own then ok, don’t make whole Singapore pay for your convenience. Such an area of low demand, buses are sufficient.

The cross island line is already questionable, wait long long for your north shore line.

Based on your suggestion, shouldn't residents who live on high floor pay more for lift maintenance and water usage (water need to pump to higher floor)?

Totally a different story. Regardless which floor you stay, you still use the lift. Anyway, those living on higher floor generally pay more for their house, don’t they?

However, people who don’t stay in the north are unlikely to use the north shore line at all. That’s over 80% of Singaporeans who won’t benefit from the line!

Think about this: you think it is fair for people living in the north east to support/pay for the construction of NSL and EWL from 1987 to 2003 while they actually don't benefit directly?

For the lift example, it will cost more to make a lift that sends passengers to a higher floor. And the day to day electricity usage is more.

This is a longer term project which will not have any impact on us.

NE line, NS EW line, Thomson east coast line and circle line, they all are very interconnected and provides access to many hot spots whether for work or leisure. What about north shore line? Are there even many residents there in the first place. That’s why I say buses are sufficient.

Regarding your lift, already explained that higher floors already pay a premium.

I agree that usage of Northshore line will be less than the existing lines, but that is partly because of the long existence of the present lines. Some time a location becomes hotspot because of the present of a mrt line.

What I disagree is the part where you mentioned that the northeast and North people should be the ones paying for the construction of the Northshore line. This is totally unfair.

Would be good if there's mrt connecting North (Woodlands,Yishun) to the East (Punggol,Tamp etc) directly.

Need Northshore line.

Punggol so congested and want to take mrt always have to travel down to serangoon. Should have a line that directly links to woodlands and Pasir ris.
