Few wdays back, I cracked my note 2 (international version, n7100), so I took it to a mobile phone shop in toa payoh to fix.

After receiving the phone which was fixed, I noticed that the phone starts to overheat easily - it can hit up to 60 odd degrees just surfing the internet, and is at about 53 degrees on idle.

After underclocking to 1.2ghz, my phone is at about 46 degs on idle and 51~53 degs while surfing.

The shop I went to claims that replacing the LCD does not affect the overheating in anyway, but after doing research online, I think that they forgot to apply thermal paste to my phone after replacing the LCD.

Any thoughts on this?

thermal paste is only applicable to several ICs on the board which requires a heat sink on top.

Commonly got computer motherboard.

In the phone, non of the components require such application of thermal paste, so i dont think its related.

A reason i could think of is that, they might have forgotten to apply some insulating tapes which secures the board to the chassis that insulates heat. Not sure if that matters..

How much did you replace it for? Perhaps they gave you cheap quality LCD screen which doesnt include these insulating tapes?

Replaced for 320.

Gosh 320 its like almost half the price of your phone. Bo hua.

Anyway since what is done is already done. You can take back to verify their screen again. Ask them change to another one. I suspect that they are using a 3rd party screen. Not an original screen. Cause usually 3rd party screens do have double standards.

My phone is only 2 weeks old which is why I went to change it. If its quite old I wouldn't even have bothered....

I suspect so too. Any advice on what I can do with regards to the heat problem? Insulating tape?

Next time buy phones with warranty. Even if it is an out of warranty repair, at least you can head back to samsung centres to get it replaced. And for sure you and i know that it is original parts. With what you have spent on this phone, you could purchase a new note 2 lte.

Anyway there is nothing you can do. Even if pry open the phone you wont be able to do much, even if you insulate the cables you might not be able to close back the phone due to the thickness involve. You could try going back to the shop and get a replacement. Be firm with them and ask them to change it for you free.

Went down to the shop and they opened up my note 2 to prove it. Original samsung set too, so looks like it may be my settings. My note 2 has cooled down to about 42-43 even on normal usage though ^^
